Bungie says unreleased Destiny 2 content remains in its “basement,” but dismisses rumors of a nearly finished Shattered Cycle expansion or hidden raid.
Bungie has committed to bringing the Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken campaigns back to Destiny 2, but the studio has warned that restoring them will take time.
In its new Community Update, Head of Product Josh Deane said unvaulting is still in pre-production, with around 12 months of full production expected after that stage ends in early 2027.

The studio also outlined a Destiny 2 Celebration initiative intended to add new updates beyond June’s Monument of Triumph. It didn’t say whether any existing unfinished work could contribute to those plans.
Deane has now provided more details in a follow-up post on X.
Bungie Shuts Down Rumors That Destiny 2’s Shattered Cycle Was Almost Finished
In a post shared after Bungie’s Community Update, Deane said the studio still has material it would like to bring into Destiny 2. He didn’t identify any specific activities or describe how far along that work might be. He also pushed back against two rumors involving Shattered Cycle and a nearly finished raid.
Deane wrote:
“RE: New content for D2. There are some things still in the ‘basement’ that we believe need to find their way to the game. Now, it’s a myth that Shattered Cycle was almost complete or that there is a nearly finished raid we are just holding on to, but I also think that we need a capstone event that can serve as an encore for how you all showed up. Working to explain that more in our next major update”

The comments leave room for Bungie to revisit unfinished material, but Deane specifically rejected claims that Shattered Cycle was almost complete or that an almost-finished raid was being held back.
He didn’t announce a new activity, identify what the unreleased material contains, or commit to releasing it.
Deane also acknowledged concerns about how long unvaulting will take. In the same X post, he said Bungie wants to explore smaller Destiny 2 updates during the restoration process, potentially including content beyond unvaulting. He stressed that the studio first needs to work out what’s feasible.
The proposed “capstone event” is another idea rather than a confirmed release. Deane described it as an encore for players who rallied around Destiny 2 after Bungie announced the end of its regular live-service development.

Bungie hasn’t said whether the event is part of Destiny 2 Celebration or a separate plan.
Bungie is targeting February 2027 for its next major Destiny update, but Deane says the studio will share unvaulting progress and additional clarifications before then.
Those interim updates should give players a clearer understanding of what Bungie can realistically bring to the game before the restoration work is finished.
