Nintendo Switch 2 sets a new US launch week sales record, beating PlayStation 4’s debut, per new data by Circana.

Nintendo’s new Switch 2 console is off to an incredible start, and it’s not just in Japan or the UK. The company has already seen massive success overseas, with the Switch 2 selling nearly a million units in its first week in Japan and breaking records for a Nintendo console launch in the UK.

Now, the Switch 2 has just set a new launch week record in the US as well.

Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Week Sales Figures in the US

The new US sales figures come from Mat Piscatella, an analyst at Circana (formerly NPD Group), who shared the info on Bluesky. Piscatella said that the Switch 2 sold over 1.1 million units during its launch week in the US alone, and that number doesn’t even include units sold through Nintendo’s own online store.

Interestingly, 79% of Switch 2 buyers in the US also picked up Mario Kart World, either as a standalone purchase or through a bundle. The other top-selling physical games for Switch 2 in its first week were Cyberpunk 2077 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. (the Switch 2 edition)

“Nintendo Switch 2 set a new all-time launch week unit sales record for video game hardware in the US, with over 1.1 million units sold during the week ending June 7, 2025 (excludes sales from the My Nintendo Store),” Piscatella said in the post. “The record was previously held by PlayStation 4.”

Meanwhile, in the UK, reports show the Switch 2’s debut was more than double the original Switch’s launch, making it Nintendo’s biggest console release ever in the region.
