New backend activity on Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Steam page has fans thinking a launch could be closer than expected.

Originally announced back in 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong has become one of the most anticipated indie games of all time. Built as a full sequel to Team Cherry’s hit Hollow Knight, the game swaps out the silent Knight for Hornet, a faster, more agile character with a whole new set of abilities.

After years of silence, things finally started to heat up in 2022 when Silksong was confirmed for Xbox and Game Pass. Fast forward to this year, and we’ve seen more movement in just a few months than in the last few years combined.

Most notably, Silksong made a surprise appearance during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 as part of a trailer tied to the upcoming Xbox ROG Ally X handheld. It wasn’t a full gameplay demo, but it was enough to remind everyone: the game is real, it’s alive, and something’s happening.

And now, fans have spotted a fresh batch of Steam backend updates, leading many to believe a launch could be right around the corner.

Hollow Knight Silksong New Steam Updates

This new bit of information comes from the SteamDB tracking tool, which shows backend updates made directly to a game’s Steam page. Over the last two days, Silksong’s page has quietly been updated several times, manually, not by any automated system.

These kinds of updates usually involve build changes, store assets, or pre-launch setup work. The important thing here is that all the changes were specific to Silksong, which suggests Team Cherry is preparing something on their end.

Of course, there’s no official comment from the developers yet, but for fans who’ve waited years for news, this is one of the strongest signs yet that Silksong is finally moving toward release.

Earlier this year, a report from insider Nate the Hate suggested the game would launch before the end of summer 2025. That means we could be looking at a release as soon as August or September, if that timeline still holds.

Then there’s the ROG Ally connection. According to another leak, Silksong is confirmed to be included as a featured title when the new handheld launches in mid-October. If that’s true, it gives us a more specific window, and maybe even a final release month.
