A well-known insider has shared ten names possibly in the running to play Kratos in Amazon’s upcoming God of War live-action TV show.
Amazon’s live-action God of War series has been in development for a while now, and updates have trickled out slowly, but they’ve been promising. After a creative reset last year, Ronald D. Moore took over as showrunner, replacing Rafe Judkins. The show will follow the 2018 reboot storyline with Kratos and Atreus journeying across Norse realms.
Moore confirmed earlier this year that scripts are still being worked on and that the team is focused on capturing the game’s emotional weight and cinematic tone. But there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding the series, especially around who will actually play Kratos.
That’s the big question fans have been asking since the show was announced. And now, it looks like we might finally have some possible contenders.
Insider Reveals Ten Actors Who Might Be in the Running for Kratos
On a new video posted today, longtime film insider John Campea (who’s accurately leaked things like Spider-Man: No Way Home spoilers and Keanu Reeves as Shadow in Sonic 3) revealed ten names he’s been hearing tied to the Kratos role.
Campea made it clear he wasn’t saying all these names were officially shortlisted, but he has “heard whispers” and conversations from industry contacts, and wanted to put the list out there. Here are the ten actors he revealed that are potentially in the running for Kratos in Amazon’s live-action God of War TV series:
- Christopher Judge
- Jason Momoa
- Dave Bautista
- Winston Duke
- Joe Manganiello
- Triple H (Paul Levesque)
- Manu Bennett
- Olivier Richters
- Travis Fimmel
- Henry Cavill
He emphasized that he’s not confirming which ones are actually being considered by Amazon; some might be fan-favorites, others might be actual names discussed behind the scenes. He also stressed that casting hasn’t been locked in, and there’s no official confirmation yet.
Campea also revealed “two big pieces of criteria” for the Kratos actor in Prime Video’s God of War: first, he should read older and battle-worn, carrying visible history; second, he must have credible size and power, able to bulk up and look truly intimidating. Strong acting matters, but Campea argues this isn’t a wordy role; it’s more about physical storytelling and that father-son edge.
Since these are all rumors, we suggest taking everything with a huge grain of salt. Why? Because the show is still in development, Amazon hasn’t opened the casting floodgates publicly, and production details (like rumored 2026 filming and a possible 2027 window) remain unconfirmed. Until we get a studio announcement, anything can change.
