A newly found Destiny 2 DPS glitch after the Ash & Iron update is letting players delete bosses instantly, and fans are calling it “Craftening 2.0.”

Destiny 2 has had its fair share of bugs over the years, but the launch of last week’s Ash & Iron update seems to have opened the floodgates. From scoring inconsistencies to progression issues in the new Portal activities, players have been reporting bugs left and right.

Bungie has already pushed out a hotfix to address some of the issues, especially around Prime Engram drops and power scaling. But now, it looks like something far more game-breaking has surfaced.

Players have discovered what many are already calling “Craftening 2.0,” a reference to the infamous crafting exploit from the year of Lightfall. This new bug is letting players instantly delete raid and dungeon bosses, dealing millions of damage in just a few seconds, and the method is surprisingly simple.

New Destiny 2 Game-Breaking DPS Glitch

The glitch was found by I_Zap_So_CRAZY on X. The setup involves using a Lightweight Frame Sword, but here’s the most important point: it only works when you jump and have zero heavy ammo. With no ammo, your light attacks somehow count as both melee and weapon damage at the same time.

When done right, this results in damage numbers reaching over a million in no more than two or three swings. That’s enough to delete raid bosses like Atheon in literal seconds. And by deleting, we actually mean that Atheon straight up vanishes from the map.

What You Need to Pull It Off

As mentioned above, the most important piece is a Lightweight Sword. There are currently two Lightweight Swords available in the game, Goldtusk and Quickfang. If you’ve unlocked all the patterns for Goldtusk from previous seasons, you’ll be able to craft it at the Enclave on Mars. For Quickfang, your best bet is to look out for Xur if he brings the weapon, but that’s totally random.

How it works: You need to jump and use a light attack with your sword while you have zero heavy ammo. If you’ve done it correctly, you’ll see chunks of the boss’s health bar disappear. Jumping here is very important; staying on the ground will only deal normal damage and won’t activate the bug.

Once you have the weapon, simply load into your favorite raid, dungeon, or higher-tier activity, and start swinging. In two or three swings, you’ll delete 90 to 95% of the bosses in the game. But, if you want to take this even further, we have a quick set of abilities that will maximize the damage output of this glitch.

For this, you’ll want Wormgod Caress on a Titan for the Burning Fists buff, or an exotic class item on Hunter or Warlock that grants similar melee bonuses. Strand subclass for Banner of War. Use a Tractor Cannon or a Hunter Tether for debuffing the target. Also, the higher your Power level, the more damage you’ll do.

Update, September 16, 6:15 PM PT: Bungie has officially acknowledged the new lightweight sword DPS glitch. In a statement posted on official Destiny 2 Team X account, the studio confirmed that lightweight swords are currently “generating a lot more damage than intended due to a gameplay bug.” To prevent further issues, the devs will be temporarily disabling lightweight swords with a hotfix tomorrow.

Until then, Bungie cheekily told players to “enjoy The Slashening”

Original Story: To prevent further issues, they’ll be temporarily disabling lightweight swords with a Live Update tomorrow.

From what we’ve been able to find, here’s everything that appears to increase the damage when doing this glitch:

  • Melee Stat (above 100)
  • Weapon Stat
  • Mask of Bakris (both Light Shift and Stasis debuff)
  • Radiant
  • Weapon Surges
  • Weapon Perks
  • Synthoceps
  • Freeze and Shatter
  • Elemental Overdrive
  • Facet of Courage (+20%)
  • Power Level
  • Spawns orbs with Arc Siphon and Reaper

Right before you start damaging the boss, make sure you kill a couple of red bar enemies (with melee or finisher) to build the Burning Fists buff. This will further increase your weapon damage. The best part is that this glitch works on all three classes, but Titan with Wormgod is the most straightforward.

As of now, Bungie hasn’t commented on this bug, but considering how wildly broken it is, there’s a good chance the devs will disable the weapons or fix the interaction soon. Until then, take advantage of this glitch as much as you can.

In other news, Bungie has responded to the Iron Banner and Eververse controversy. The studio announced that it is moving the originally paid armor set into the Iron Banner loot pool, after backlash from the community about paywalled cosmetics.
