Rockstar Games has officially delayed GTA 6 once again, saying the team needs extra time to polish the long-awaited sequel and meet player expectations.

Rockstar Games has officially announced another delay for Grand Theft Auto 6, confirming that the long-awaited sequel won’t be arriving as soon as fans had hoped. The release has been moved from its previously announced date of May 26, 2026, to November 19, 2026, nearly a six-month delay.

The studio shared the update on its official website, explaining that the team needs a few more months to finish development and ensure the game launches with the level of polish players expect from a Rockstar title.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Officially Delayed Again

Here’s the full statement from Rockstar Games:

“Hi everyone, Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.

“We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City. Sincerely, Rockstar Games.”

As mentioned above, it’s not the first time GTA 6 has been pushed back. Originally set for release in 2025, the game was later moved to May 2026 before today’s announcement confirmed it’s now coming even later. While delays are never fun for fans, Rockstar’s track record shows the studio rarely rushes its biggest projects.

This delay comes after months of speculation and new reports about what players can expect from Grand Theft Auto 6. Earlier leaks suggested that the game will feature a 6-star wanted level, underwater exploration, and a relationship system that affects how NPCs respond to your choices. Players will reportedly switch between two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, with the ability to tackle missions alone or together.

Other leaked details suggest that there’s a massive world filled with hundreds of enterable buildings, improved driving, and realistic NPC behavior. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed any of these features yet, so take them with a grain of salt.

On the music side, a recent report hinted that GTA 6 could include a system for artists to upload their own tracks directly into the game, with Drake rumored to have his own radio station. Producer Jermaine Dupri even mentioned being approached by Rockstar for a project involving in-game music uploads.

Meanwhile, development at Rockstar hasn’t been without controversy. Just this month, reports surfaced that the company had fired around 40 employees following alleged union activity, claims that Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two denied, calling the firings a result of “gross misconduct.”
