Bungie has revealed Vanguard Alerts, a new weekly activity system launching in Destiny 2: Renegades.

Destiny 2’s next expansion, Renegades, launches on December 2, 2025, and Bungie has been steadily rolling out new information as we get closer to release. Over the last few days, we’ve learned about the new Orders system that replaces bounties, a new weapons trailer highlighting some of the gear coming next season, and earlier today, the reveal of the new Equilibrium dungeon arriving on December 13 with its own 48-hour Contest race.

Now, Bungie has shared another major feature headed to the game: a brand-new weekly activity system called Vanguard Alerts.

What Are Vanguard Alerts in Destiny 2?

In this week’s This Week in Destiny article, Bungie revealed a new ritual system that will roll out in Week 2 of Renegades (December 9, 2025). Vanguard Alerts are designed to give players a simple, clear place to start their weekly grind.

You’ll find Vanguard Alerts inside the Seasonal Hub, with a dedicated tab that shows every activity, reward, and challenge for that week. The whole system refreshes weekly, so players always have new rewards to chase.

How Vanguard Alerts Work

Each week, you’ll get access to three core sections inside the Vanguard Alerts tab: Vanguard, Arena Ops, and Crucible. These include a mix of quick matchmaking activities, six-player PvE Arena missions, and PvP modes. All of these playlists use simple preset modifiers, and Bungie says the goal is to keep them fun and easy to jump into while still making sure the rewards feel worth it.

“These playlists contain a set of activities including the new six-player PvE Arena Ops that are fast, uncomplicated to complete, and have pre-set modifiers,” the devs said. “These are best for players that just want to relax and play some PvE while still earning great rewards.”

There’s also a tougher category: Grandmaster Vanguard Alerts. These are meant to hit harder than the standard Grandmaster versions found in the main Portal. Bungie directly compared them to the old-school GM Nightfalls, longer, more demanding, and tuned to drop better loot.

And for players who love the bigger activities, Bungie is even pulling the new Desert Perpetual raid and the Renegades Equilibrium dungeon into the mix. Each of them will have weekly challenges within Vanguard Alerts, letting you earn rewards from their pools without needing to run the full activity every time.

Vanguard Alerts: Rewards and Progression

Vanguard Alerts are built around “multi-stage challenges.” As you clear activities, you move up through each stage and unlock rewards and XP along the way. These rewards include Tier 3+ weapons scaled to your account Power, which makes Vanguard Alerts one of the strongest weekly sources for keeping your gear up to date.

Bungie also confirmed that Alerts are one of the main places to earn the new seasonal weapons featuring the Accelerated Assault Origin Trait. Arena Ops and Crucible Alerts have their own weapon pools as well, so players who focus on PvP still get tailored drops.

There are also first-stage bonuses once per week for each category:

  • Vanguard Alerts: 50 Chronologs
  • Arena Ops: 50 Bright Dust
  • Crucible Alerts: 50 Bright Dust

If you want to keep grinding after completing your stages, you can keep running playlists for regular rewards and a random chance at more seasonal drops. And for players who like the challenge, finishing a Grandmaster Vanguard Alert with a Grade B or higher gives you a Pinnacle weapon with the Accelerated Assault trait, plus bonus XP.

Bungie also mentioned that this is only the beginning. The team is already exploring the idea of adding legacy raids and dungeons to the weekly rotation and giving Vanguard Alerts a permanent home inside the Portal later on.
