A new Illumination employee listing has fans thinking a Princess Peach movie may be in development after The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Nintendo and Illumination have been building real momentum with Mario on the big screen. After the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, the partnership continued with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which was released in theaters on April 1, 2026.
The sequel brought Mario back to theaters with a bigger space-focused story, giving fans another sign that Nintendo’s movie plans are not slowing down anytime soon. With Mario now clearly working as a movie franchise, fans have been asking the obvious question: what comes next?

A Donkey Kong movie has been rumored, more Mario films are expected by many, and plenty of fans have been hoping Nintendo gives major characters their own spin-off projects. Princess Peach is usually near the top of that list, especially after Anya Taylor-Joy’s version of the character became one of the standout parts of the first Mario movie.
Now, it appears one of those hoped-for spin-offs might actually be moving forward, at least potentially.
Princess Peach Movie Rumor Points To New Illumination Listing
The new information comes from a post shared on X earlier today by user itsamedfffaz. The post claims that a Princess Peach movie is seemingly being rig designed right now at Illumination. The claim is based on what appears to be an Illumination Studios Paris employee’s work history, which lists a current role as Senior Character Rig Designer on “Untitled P P Movie.” The listing says the work started in April 2026 and is still ongoing.
That detail is what has fans paying attention. “P P Movie” is not an official title, but the initials have led people to think it could stand for Princess Peach Movie. The same screenshot also shows the employee previously worked on “Untitled P O Movie” from May 2025 to April 2026.
According to the X post, that earlier project is believed to be the Poppy Prescott spin-off movie, and that work has now ended.

That said, this should absolutely be taken with a grain of salt. Nintendo and Illumination have not announced a Princess Peach movie. A work listing with initials is not the same thing as confirmation. It could be Princess Peach, but it could also be something totally unrelated.
If the movie is real, a release before 2028 feels unlikely. Animated films take years to finish, and if rig design only started in April 2026, that points to early production. A 2029 or 2030 release window would make more sense, especially with other Nintendo and Illumination projects reportedly being lined up around that period.
