Star Wars Battlefront 3 could be handled by Bungie or DICE, according to a new rumor.
Electronic Gaming Monthly’s latest issue claims Lucasfilm is looking for a developer to make another Star Wars Battlefront game, and Destiny 2 studio Bungie is one of the names in the mix. DICE, which developed EA’s Battlefront games in 2015 and 2017, is the other reported candidate. Neither has a publicly confirmed deal.
The rumor comes from EGM #265’s revived Quartermann gossip column. The magazine says Lucasfilm is interested in a follow-up because of the continued popularity of 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront II, although no studio has fully committed to the project. EGM released the issue digitally to Compendium backers on October 9, 2026.

Jeff Grubb brought the rumor to Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings today.
Star Wars Battlefront 3 Rumor Names Bungie Alongside DICE As Potential Developers
Grubb read the Quartermann passage during the show, which featured Seth Macy as a guest. According to EGM’s sources, Lucasfilm has been actively searching for a development partner rather than automatically handing the series back to DICE. The magazine says two major studios are circling the project, with Bungie the less expected possibility given its work on Halo, Destiny and Marathon.
“The suits at Lucasfilm have been aggressively deploying probe droids for a development partner to take on the task of creating a follow-up,” Grubb read. “So far, no one has fully stepped up, but yours truly is hearing two major game studios are circling the project like a couple of snowspeeders led by the completely unsurprising EA DICE who we can hope learned from their loot box lesson.

“…if the Force is not entrusted to DICE, it could land at none other than Halo, Destiny, and Marathon developer Bungie.”
EGM says no developer has fully stepped forward, and its report doesn’t establish that either studio has signed a deal, assembled a team or started production. There is no announced release window.
Grubb made a similar distinction after reading the rumor. He interpreted the report as suggesting early conversations about who could make a new Battlefront rather than a game already in development.

He also said he personally expects DICE to get the job instead of Bungie. Grubb was offering his prediction, separate from EGM’s reported information.
Of course, none of this is officially confirmed. So, we suggesting taking everything with a grain of salt, at least until we get more reportings and/or corroborations from other reliable insiders.

Interestingly, Bungie has already worked with the Star Wars franchise. Last year, the studio released Destiny 2: Renegades, an officially licensed Star Wars-inspired expansion featuring blaster weapons, lightsaber-inspired combat, and missions influenced by the franchise.
The expansion kept its story within the Destiny universe, but it gave Bungie experience working with Star Wars elements.
