Black Myth: Wukong’s Xbox release is facing delays due to optimization challenges tied to the Xbox Series S memory limitations, the game’s director has confirmed.
Black Myth: Wukong has been one of the most anticipated action RPGs in recent years, capturing attention with its stunning visuals and fluid gameplay. Developed by Game Science, the game’s epic journey through Chinese mythology has already earned it a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024.
Following its massive reveal and positive reception, fans have been eagerly awaiting its launch across platforms. However, the wait for Xbox users has been riddled with speculation.
Recent rumors hinted that the game might be skipping Xbox due to a PlayStation exclusivity deal, causing debates among fans. Others pointed to technical issues, leaving everyone wondering what the real story was.
Director Confirms Xbox Delay Tied to Memory Limits
Now, a new update straight from Game Science’s director Feng Ji has shed light on the situation. In a post shared on Weibo, the director explained that the delay isn’t due to exclusivity deals or bugs but rather optimization challenges with the Xbox Series S.
According to the post, the Xbox Series S’s 10GB of shared memory has made it particularly difficult to optimize the game without extensive experience and development time. The director candidly expressed that overcoming these hurdles would take significant effort and acknowledged the struggle to get it ready for the console.
In his words, “Although it wasn’t too surprising, I still feel a bit emotional after securing everything. Everyone’s combat power is truly terrifying. The only thing missing is the Xbox robe… which somehow feels a bit wrong (but that 10GB of shared memory—without years of optimization experience, it’s really hard to make it work).”
Unfortunately, no release date for the Xbox version has been confirmed yet, leaving fans to wait a little longer for updates.
