Bungie has explained how Destiny 2’s Rite of the Nine event went live early this week. The weapons players earned won’t be removed, but some perks will be changed, says the developer.
Tuesday was a bit chaotic for Destiny 2 players. With Act 2 of the Heresy episode rolling out, bringing new activities and Guardian Games, something unexpected happened, Rite of the Nine went live early. This was supposed to be released on April 1, but due to a mistake, some players got access to it way ahead of schedule.
It was clearly unfinished. Weapons didn’t have proper designs, the user interface wasn’t what Bungie intended, and the difficulty settings weren’t balanced. Realizing the slip-up, Bungie quickly pulled the content and started investigating what went wrong.
Now, the developer has released a statement explaining exactly what went wrong, and what’s going to happen to the weapons some players managed to grab early.
Bungie Releases a Statement on the Rite of the Nine Early Release in Destiny 2
According to Bungie, the issue happened because some of the earliest versions of the Rite of the Nine activities accidentally made their way into Update 8.2.5. The team explained that what players saw was a work-in-progress version, with temporary weapon art, fake perk rolls, an unfinished UI, and untuned difficulty settings.
Despite the mistake, Bungie has reassured players that they won’t lose any Rite of the Nine weapons they earned. However, the perks on these weapons will be updated to “prevent some rule-breaking combinations.”
Bungie shared the following statement in their latest This Week in Destiny blog post:
“Some of the earliest iterations of our Rite of the Nine activities snuck their way into Update 8.2.5. Most of what was seen was placeholder: weapon rewards all featured temporary art and fake perk rolls, the user interface is not what we’re planning to ship, and difficulty options don’t have the tuning passes that we’ve planned for Explorer, Eternity, and Ultimatum modes.
“As a final note, for all of you who got your hands on weapon rewards early: we won’t be removing them from your inventory. When Rite of the Nine ships, perk rolls will be updated across the board to prevent some rule-breaking combinations (Incandescent or Chill Clip on a Void Shotgun, for example), but you’ll still retain these rewards on launch day.”
In other related news, Bungie has confirmed that it will be tuning Warlock’s ‘Snap Skate’ movement technique in a future patch.
