A new Bungie job listing reveals that Marathon will feature in-game seasonal events.
Bungie’s upcoming PvP extraction shooter, Marathon, has been wrapped in mystery since its announcement. Fans have been itching for new details, and while Bungie has been tight-lipped, leaks and job listings have given us a clearer picture of what to expect.
Last year, Bungie released a development update for the game, which revealed never-before-seen concepts for two Runners, codenamed “Stealth” and “Thief.” Following The Game Post’s report, the developer also officially confirmed that the game will feature a class-based system with “Runners” having unique character abilities. And now, some more details have come to light.

Thanks to a new job listing, we have more details on what Marathon’s post-launch content roadmap will look like, and that seasonal in-game events will be a thing.
Will Marathon Have Seasonal Events Like Destiny 2?
The Game Post spotted a newly posted job listing for Events Systems Designer on Bungie’s careers page, and it reveals some interesting details about Marathon’s post-launch content roadmap. According to the description, the person hired for this role will be responsible for designing and managing seasonal in-game events for Marathon, integrating them with the game’s overall live-service model.
In simpler terms, this means Marathon will likely feature limited-time events, possibly tied to holidays, game updates, or even major story moments. The job listing reads:
“As a Staff Events Systems Designer, you will execute a roadmap for in-game events. You will leverage your knowledge of tech design, activities, sandbox mechanics, and investment systems to integrate events into the broader game ecosystem and are technically stable and scalable.
“Our team’s mission is to craft compelling seasonal events that enhance replay ability, deepen player engagement, and bring the world of Marathon to life. In the extraction genre, this involves crafting events that seamlessly blend with tactical gameplay, world-building, and a dynamic live-service model that are accessible to casual and competitive players.”
The wording here sounds a lot like what Bungie already does in Destiny 2, where players see recurring seasonal events like Festival of the Lost (Halloween) and The Dawning. (Winter)
Apart from that, Marathon is targeting a premium launch price of $40, indicating that Bungie is steering away from a free-to-play model. There has also been speculation that pre-orders could go live in the next couple of weeks, potentially bringing Destiny 2 crossover rewards for those who jump in early.
With the launch of Episode Heresy in Destiny 2, dataminers found a Marathon-themed Sparrow, which led many to believe that it could be a pre-order bonus that players who purchase Marathon can get in Destiny 2.
In other related news, Sony and former Marathon director Chris Barrett’s lawsuit received a big update recently, with Sony revealing “disturbing” text messages Barrett sent to lower-level female employees.
