Bungie has reportedly ruled out more full Destiny 2 expansion crossovers after its Star Wars-inspired Renegades DLC.
Over the past few years, Destiny 2 has slowly become a crossover machine. We have seen Fortnite, Assassin’s Creed, Street Fighter, PlayStation IPs, The Witcher, Mass Effect, and even Star Wars-themed armor sets show up in the game. Most of these have lived in Eververse as ornaments, ships, Sparrows, and emotes, dropping in for a season, then rotating out as the next big collab rolls in.
That changed this year with Renegades. Instead of another set of premium ornaments, Bungie teamed up with Lucasfilm Games for a full paid Destiny 2 expansion that leaned hard into Star Wars-style visuals, weapons like Praxic Blade, and a space western tone. It is undoubtedly the most ambitious crossover Destiny has ever had.

As big as that crossover is, it now sounds like Renegades will be the first and last time Destiny 2 does a full expansion tied to another franchise.
Bungie reportedly ending full Destiny 2 expansion crossovers after Renegades
This new info comes from Forbes contributor Paul Tassi, who was flown out to Bungie for the Renegades preview event. During that visit, while speaking with Bungie, he was told the studio is not planning more full expansion collabs like Renegades.
In a reply thread on X (Twitter), one player pitched a theory that summer expansion (Shattered Cycle) would stay “classic Destiny” while winter expansion (The Alchemist) could be big crossover expansions, then asked which franchise might be next. Tassi shut that idea down, saying Bungie told him they are not planning more expansion collabs like Renegades.
“They told me they don’t have more collabs like this planned,” Tassi replied. He followed up with, “They’ll do gear collabs but not like, full expansion collabs.”
Bungie still seems happy to sell themed armor sets, ships, Sparrows, and emotes, just like it did with Mass Effect, The Witcher, and others. Renegades, though, looks like a one-time crossover. New datamined leaks have confirmed a proper crossover with Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, where Destiny 2 players will get new Runner-themed armor sets and other cosmetics.

In a recent interview, game director Tyson Green has admitted that Edge of Fate’s progression overhaul “didn’t work” and that 2025 has been one of the roughest years for the live game. “We don’t want to be a dead live game, we want to keep building Destiny,” said Green. “So we’re listening to our players, and what our players are telling us is that they don’t want to chase a simple number that goes up, they want real rewards.”
Apart from that, for the long-term future, there have been some new reports that Destiny 3 has entered early development at Bungie.

So, how do you feel about Bungie keeping future Destiny 2 expansions focused on its own universe, while limiting crossovers to cosmetics again? Would you have wanted more full collab DLCs after Renegades, or is one enough? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
