Bungie is asking Destiny 2 players how they feel about a seasonal Power level reset to 200 in the upcoming Renegades expansion.
If you’ve been keeping up with Destiny 2, you probably know that Bungie recently overhauled how Power levels work in Edge of Fate. The update reset every player back to Power level 10, introduced the new Portal system for progression, and changed how rewards scale. Players have since been climbing their way back up to the current cap of around 550.
Bungie previously confirmed that when the next expansion launches, players’ seasonal Power, anything above level 200, will be reset. That means when Renegades drops in December, everyone will start back at 200 again.
A lot of players aren’t happy about this. Many feel like grinding for Power every few months is pointless and doesn’t add much to the experience. The idea of another reset isn’t sitting well with the community, especially after the long climb introduced in Edge of Fate.
Bungie Survey Asks Destiny 2 Players About Power Reset to 200 in Renegades
Now, it looks like Bungie is checking in to see how players really feel about it. The studio has started sending out paid surveys to a select group of players, asking them directly how they feel about seasonal Power resetting back to 200 in Renegades, which launches on December 2, 2025.
Update, October 6, 2:15 PM PT: Bungie has just announced that seasonal Power will carry over into Renegades. In a post on X (Twitter), the devs said: “As we continue to develop Power and Progression changes for Destiny 2: Renegades, we’d like to announce the following changes.”
“Seasonal Power will now carry over into Season 28 in December. There will not be a Seasonal Power reset as in past Seasons. Additionally, your Unstable Cores will carry over into Season 28. Beginning next week, a catch-up will be available to boost players to 300 Power.”
Original story: According to a Reddit post shared earlier today, the survey was sent directly by Bungie and offers 1,000 Silver as compensation. It includes a question that reads:
“Knowing that persistent Power carries forward, how do you feel about your seasonal Power level resetting to 200 at the start of the next expansion, Renegades?”
And the options included:
- Very negative
- Negative
- Somewhat negative
- Neutral
- Somewhat positive
- Positive
- Very positive
This is the first direct sign that Bungie is testing the waters on whether players are still okay with this seasonal reset structure. Some in the community are holding out hope that the studio may reconsider based on survey results, though that’s speculation for now.
The community reaction to the seasonal Power reset has been almost entirely negative, with many Destiny 2 players saying they’re tired of repeating the same Power grind every few months.
One player summed up the frustration: “Do they really need a survey to know that no one wants the power reset?! Literally no one wants to do this awful grind again!”
Another tried to stay a bit more optimistic, saying that while it’s frustrating, “That’s great, they are trying to get statistics on it. This means they know the sentiment is bad, but want to get a measurement of it. That is a good sign.”
Still, others pointed out deeper design issues behind the system itself. One user wrote, “I see this problem as somewhat tricky. Obviously, resetting the Power back to 200, given the previous grind, that is a terrible idea. However, by not doing it, the people who are at high Power will continue to get Tier 5 loot seemingly in perpetuity. I think the tiering system being tied to Power is a massive mistake.”
They added that bringing Power back at all was a mistake, saying, “To be clear, I do not think Power belongs in this game.”
Beyond the Power discussion, Renegades is also introducing new abilities, the Lawless Frontier mode, a social hub called Tharsis Outpost, and new Star Wars-themed weapons. In other news, Destiny 2 just hit its lowest average player count on Steam in the game’s history, with several well-known streamers announcing they’re taking a break from the game.
