Destiny 2 players are upset over the Chatterwhite shader quest being timegated in the two-week “Past Is Prologue” event.

The new two-week event in Destiny 2, “Past Is Prologue,” is officially live. Running from January 21 to February 4, this event serves as a bridge between Episode Revenant and the upcoming Episode Heresy.

One of the main attractions? The return of the beloved Chatterwhite shader from the original Destiny. However, there’s a catch that has players feeling frustrated. To give a quick overview, this event revolves around completing a series of quests to get a new currency called “Bento Tokens,” which players can use to purchase rewards like weapons, Mementos, and armor.

However, players quickly realized that the shader’s quest, “Packed Lunch,” is currently timegated. This unexpected limitation has led to backlash from the community, with some feeling disappointed that even a single shader is being restricted this way.

Destiny 2 Chatterwhite Shader Timegated

To get the Chatterwhite shader, players need to complete the “Packed Lunch” quest, which requires the completion of five Bento Box quests. Right now, only four Bento Box quests are available from the Drifter, leaving players unable to complete the quest immediately.

According to the quest details, more Bento Box quests will be added later this week, through Xur, or even next week. This means players will have to wait up to a week to claim the shader. “Additional “Past Is Prologue” quests will unlock next week, or can be obtained from Xur this weekend,” the quest reads.

Fan reactions have been anything but quiet. One user said, “This is actually so terrible.” Another said, “Pretty funny they even timegate a single returning shader.” A user on the Bungie Forums created a thread calling this out, “I actually set aside time to play the event today and do everything but I’m unable to because it’s gated.”

As of right now, Bungie has not commented on whether it will make any changes to the quest or release the remaining Bento Box quests early.

In other related news, it looks like Bungie is finally working on adding a long-request feature to the game, a shooting range. A recent leak suggests that the developer is working on a shooting range that will added at some point in the future, along with the return of Armsday.
