Voice actors for Call of Duty Zombies reportedly left Black Ops 6 over the lack of AI protections in contracts.
Call of Duty Zombies has long been a fan-favorite mode, offering unique storylines, memorable characters, and thrilling survival gameplay. Recently in Black Ops 6, the developer added a new Zombies map called Citadel De Morts, continuing the saga of Samantha Maxis and her team.
However, recent changes have left players scratching their heads, especially regarding the sudden recasting of iconic voices like Samantha Maxis, who’s been a central figure in the series since World at War.
The situation took a strange turn when Call of Duty insider and leaker, TheGhostofHope, posted on X (Twitter) about turmoil within Treyarch. The leaker claimed that multiple voice actors for the Black Ops 6 Zombies crew have exited the project, citing a lack of AI protections in their contracts as the main reason.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies Voice Actors Recast
According to the post, actors pulled out of the game due to concerns about how their voices could be used or recreated using AI without proper safeguards. This reportedly led to the recasting of Samantha Maxis, with Julie Nathanson’s voice lines being completely removed in a recent update.
Nathanson, who has voiced Samantha since Black Ops 1, also portrayed Aetherella in earlier Black Ops 6 maps like Terminus and Liberty Falls.
“Almost all of the actors that feature in the Zombies crew in Black Ops 6 Zombies have pulled out of working over the lack of AI protections in their contracts,” said TheGhostofHope in a post on X. “This has resulted in some of the disappointing recasts we are now seeing early on (Ex: SAM on Citadelle), with some likely still to be recast in future maps, etc.”
It’s hard to imagine a Call of Duty Zombies game without the iconic voices we’ve come to associate with these beloved characters. If Nolan North, the legendary voice of Richtofen, follows suit due to similar union concerns, it could mark the end of an era for the series.
For many fans, these characters are more than just voices—they’re the heart and soul of the narrative. It’s important to remember that this is unverified and should be taken with a grain of salt.
