Destiny 2 Episode Revenant brought tons of new content, but it appears the new update also introduced a surprise: an enemy boss named “Jimmy, Aspect of Placeholding.”

Bungie dropped Destiny 2’s highly anticipated Episode Revenant with update 8.1.0 on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, bringing a ton of new content to the game. From the updated Onslaught Salvation seasonal activity to new exotic armor for each class and the Alethonym exotic grenade launcher, there’s plenty to keep the players busy.

Amid all this excitement, Destiny 2’s iconic The Whisper exotic mission, which was re-added earlier this year with the Into The Light update, seems to have also received some unexpected attention.

After this week’s update, players noticed something strange happening within the mission, a new boss has entered, and his name is… Jimmy.

Meet Destiny 2’s Jimmy, Aspect of Placeholding

Players hopping into The Whisper exotic mission after the Episode Revenant update found themselves face-to-face with a boss named “Jimmy, Aspect of Placeholding.”

According to some players, this mysterious Jimmy has been popping up in place of Tulgorh, Aspect of Agony, the usual boss of the mission. For those unaware, Tulgorh, Aspect of Agony, is the Taken Ogre that spawns in the final boss encounter.

“[I] was playing Whisper with my friend, and when Tulgorh, Aspect of Agony spawned, his name was changed for some reason to ‘Jimmy, Aspect of Placeholding’,” Reddit user TheAlderKing said.

The name “Aspect of Placeholding” suggests that Jimmy is most likely a developer placeholder that accidentally made its way into the live game.

” [I] was running Whisper of the Worm for the first time with a friend. We had spawned all three of the first group of bosses at the same time and killed them. Noticed that the Taken Ogre spawned was named Jimmy, Aspect of Placeholding,” another user said in a thread on Reddit. “I’m not sure if this is an easter egg or a genuine bug.”

Placeholder names like these are typically used during development when bosses or items haven’t been finalized yet, and it seems Bungie left this one in by mistake. For now, Jimmy’s appearance is being treated as an amusing bug.

In other news, Destiny 2’s newest dungeon, Vesper’s Host, is launching today. Here’s everything you need to know about the first-ever Dungeon Race, its Contest Mode, the returning Ice Breaker, and more.
