Destiny 2 Changes Rite of the Nine Dungeon Rotation Schedule After Player Backlash, Adds Bonus Rewards

Bungie has updated the Rite of the Nine event in Destiny 2 after player backlash, with shorter dungeon rotations and more rewards.

The Rite of the Nine event in Destiny 2 started off strong last week. It brought back three of the game’s dungeons with updated loot and gave players something new to grind while waiting for the next big expansion, Edge of Fate. But once the second weekly reset hit this week, things didn’t go as players expected.

Instead of a new dungeon showing up, Spire of the Watcher was still the active dungeon. This caught a lot of players off guard as most were expecting a weekly rotation, not three weeks of the same dungeon. Bungie hadn’t clearly communicated that each dungeon would actually stick around for three weeks, and players weren’t happy about it.

Many felt misled, calling out the extended time-gating and comparing it to previous issues in Destiny 2’s recent events. Bungie eventually responded with a clarification, confirming the three-week dungeon rotation, but by then, the damage had been done.

We now have another update on this whole situation.

Bungie Announces Dungeon Rotation Changes to Rite of the Nine Event

Today, Bungie followed up with another update, and this time, it’s good news. Shared through the official Destiny 2 Team accounts on social media, Bungie revealed that it’s changing the dungeon rotation for Rite of the Nine and adding extra loot incentives to make up for the confusion.

Starting now, each dungeon will only be featured for two weeks instead of three, and the drop rate for Nonary Manifold currency is being increased. This currency can be exchanged for more weapons, giving players more chances to get the new Holofoils and Adepts. Plus, in the second week of each dungeon, there will be increased weapon drops across the board, including from any enemy in the dungeon.

For this current week, Bungie says it’s quickly working on an update to add these extra drops to Spire of the Watcher until the next dungeon takes over on May 20.

Here’s the new updated Rite of the Nine dungeon schedule in Destiny 2:

After June 17, all Rite of the Nine dungeons will be available at any time, on any difficulty. A featured dungeon each week will still have the bonus weapon drops.

  • Spire of the Watcher: June 17
  • Ghosts of the Deep: June 24
  • Prophecy: July 1

“Starting on June 17, all Rite of the Nine Dungeons will be available to play at any time on any difficulty – and increased currency drops will be active for all three dungeons,” the post reads. “Each week a featured dungeon will have increased weapon drops. This will begin with Spire of the Watcher on June 17, followed by Ghosts of the Deep on June 24, and ending with Prophecy on July 1.”

For the final week of Episode Heresy, Bungie is launching what it calls a “lootapalooza”. Starting July 8, all three Rite of the Nine dungeons, Spire of the Watcher, Ghosts of the Deep, and Prophecy, will be active at the same time. Every bonus reward from the event so far will be turned on, giving players the best shot at farming loot. On top of that, Bungie says there will be “a new way to spend your Nonary Manifold currency” during this final stretch.

“On July 8, a ‘lootapalooza’ will begin; all three dungeons will have all rewards bonuses enabled for the final week of Episode Heresy, alongside a new way to spend your Nonary Manifold currency. We hope this gives all Guardians ample time to hunt for Holofoils and Adepts as they prepare for The Edge of Fate’s launch on July 15.”
