When Does Destiny 2: Edge of Fate Preload Start?

Bungie has confirmed that preload for Update 9.0.0.1 will begin rolling out a bit early on Sunday, July 13, 2025, for some PlayStation and Xbox users who have auto-update enabled. For everyone else across all platforms, full preload access will go live after Destiny 2 goes offline for maintenance on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, starting at 6 AM PDT.

Here’s how it works:

  • PlayStation and Xbox: If you have auto-update enabled, you might get the update as early as July 13 after 6 AM PDT
  • All platforms: Preload becomes available after Destiny 2 goes offline for maintenance on July 15 at 6 AM PDT
  • Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store: The update should automatically appear in your download queue once available.

How Much Space Does Edge of Fate Require?

The Edge of Fate expansion comes with a chunky update, and Bungie has published full storage requirements by platform. In some cases (especially on PC and PS4), the total install size can get really big (over 300 GB) because of how preloading stacks with existing files.

Here’s the full breakdown:

PlatformStorage NeededFinal Game Size
PS5154.60 GB154.60 GB
PS4319.50 GB150.20 GB
Xbox Series X and S148.64 GB148.64 GB
Xbox One140.33 GB140.33 GB
Steam331.40 GB148.40 GB
Epic Games Store329.24 GB182.83 GB
Microsoft Store138.81 GB138.81 GB

Keep in mind that the file sizes listed above represent the maximum possible install size and can vary depending on which language packs you have installed. For example, on PlayStation 4, the total size includes both the current installed version of Destiny 2 (around 169.30 GB) and the new Edge of Fate preload (approximately 150.20 GB), which adds up to the hefty 319.50 GB figure.

Similarly, on Steam, the total size includes your existing installation (which can be up to 183.00 GB) combined with the new preload (up to 148.40 GB), bringing the total to about 331.40 GB. So depending on what’s already on your system, your actual download and install size may be a bit smaller
