This comprehensive guide will show you the locations of all secret chests in the Destiny 2 Encore Exotic mission.
The Destiny 2 Encore Exotic mission has just been released, adding another layer of excitement for fans as part of Episode Echoes Act 3. As with other exotic missions in Destiny 2, Encore also offers a new exotic weapon called Choir of One (here’s how to unlock it) – a Void exotic auto rifle that uses Special Ammo.
There are a number of secrets to be found in the new Encore exotic mission, including the secret collectibles, the new specimen quest, exotic catalysts for Choir of One, and the seven secret chests.
Let’s dive into the guide on where to find these secret chests in the Encore mission and how to unlock them.
Destiny 2 Encore: All Secret Chest Locations
There are a total of seven secret chests in the new Encore exotic mission. Currently, you can only unlock three of them, with the rest being timegated. To get started, you need to complete the exotic mission at least once, before jumping into getting the secret chests.
In addition to that, you need to complete the SpecimenID: NES007 and the weekly story quests as well. These quests are pretty straightforward which involves defeating a couple of Vex combatants in the Sol.
Note
The secret chests are timegated. We will update this article in the coming weeks when more chests are available in the game.
Destiny 2 Encore: Secret Chest 1
As you progress through the mission, you’ll enter a purple-lit hallway with two giant flowers on the left side, right before the first major nodes encounter. Instead of following the usual path to the right, take a left turn into a circular room filled with Vex portals.
In the center, you’ll find a Vex conflux that you can scan if you’ve completed the necessary quest. This will trigger a puzzle and you’ll see four Vex cubes spawn, one of which will have a smaller cube attached underneath it.
Destroy the cube with the smaller cube, and it will guide you to the next target. Repeat this process through two waves, and the first chest will spawn.
Destiny 2 Encore: Secret Chest 2
For the second secret chest, head to the room containing the first planetary piston. Look for a Vex conflux that spawns in the middle of the room near the piston. Scanning it will open a Vex portal to the right, that teleports you back to the hub area.
From there, go through another Vex gate and you’ll find yourself in an open area. Here, you’ll find another Vex conflux, scanning it will spawn five Vex plates connected by faint light beams. To unlock the chest, you’ll need to find and destroy all five of these plates within the given time limit.
Simply follow the light beam from the conflux and it’ll lead you right to the plate. Successfully destroying all plates will spawn the second secret chest that will unlock the Weapon Frame II upgrade for the Choir of One exotic auto rifle.
Destiny 2 Encore: Secret Chest 3
The third chest is located in the research lab, where you first acquire the Specimen quest and listen to a dialogue between Maya Sundaresh, Chioma Esi, Ikora Rey, and Osiris. After entering the room, you’ll notice another Vex conflux spawn. Scan the conflux and it’ll open the Vex portal right in front of it that’ll lead you back to the hub.
From the hub, go through the opened portal, and you’ll be teleported, this time to a circular room containing blue buffs and a bunch of Vex portals. Place these buffs near portals to activate white lasers that will point to specific Vex diamonds. These diamonds correspond to the locations where you’ll teleport if you enter the portals.
Above, in the next room, are purple Vex nodes. Teleport to them and destroy the nodes. Once all nodes are destroyed, the third secret chest will spawn, unlocking the Subsistence exotic catalyst for Choir of One.
Destiny 2 Encore: Secret Chest 4
For this secret chest, first, you need to complete the Echoes Act 2 week 2 storyline until the Encore: Concerto mission becomes available.
Launch the mission, solve the first “hub” puzzle located in the purple room, and proceed towards the second conflux. Interact with the second conflux, and enter the Vex portal on the right. Upon returning to the Hub area, you’ll notice a second portal has opened in front. Enter this portal and you’ll be teleported to the main puzzle area.
Here’s how the puzzle works: You need to open the Vex portal using the blue buff that connects to the above room with the small white cube in front. Enter the portal, and you’ll see three Vex cubes. You need to destroy the one that has a smaller cube in front of it.
Doing so will remove the immune shield on the boss and you’ll be able to do damage. Repeat until the boss is defeated. This will reward you with the second intrinsic for Choir of One.
Destiny 2 Encore: Secret Chest 5
This chest is located right before the final boss fight. Start by activating the Vex conflux in the lab, which will eventually lead you back to the main hub area. After teleporting back, you’ll notice a second portal has now opened to the left. Enter it, and you’ll find yourself in a secret puzzle encounter.
Note
Keep an ear out for a proximity alert that lets you know when you’re close to a Vex Countermand collectible.
Here’s how the puzzle works:
In this area, your goal is to collect a total of four Vex specimen collectibles (which are Vex-eye-shaped). Additionally, you’ll need to acquire a new red buff, which you can obtain by defeating Vex Minotaurs. The red buff is essential for opening barriers that block the Vex specimens.
After teleporting in, head straight to the end of the tunnel, where you’ll find a node requiring the red buff. Move to your right, where a Vex Minotaur will appear. Defeat the Minotaur to obtain the red buff. Turn around, and you’ll notice another entrance on your left. In this small area, you’ll find the first Vex specimen.
Return to the starting point where you were teleported in, and use the red buff to open the barrier. Proceed to the next room, where you’ll encounter another Vex Minotaur. Defeat it and use the red buff it drops to open the barrier on the left side of the room.
At the end of this tunnel, you’ll find the second Vex specimen. After collecting it, return to the main room, retrieve the red buff from the node, and move forward until you reach another red buff barrier.
Open this barrier, and you’ll see a blue node and a Vex portal. To get the blue buff, defeat the Minotaur on the right side of the room. Use the blue buff to open the portal.
Enter the Vex portal to reach the next area. In this room, you’ll have to defeat another Vex Minotaur that drops the yellow buff. Before exiting, collect the third Vex specimen, which is hidden behind the middle pillar. Then, deposit the yellow buff into the yellow node to open the passage back to the starting area.
Next, return to the room where you found the second Vex specimen. Retrieve the red buff from the node, head back to the main area, and deposit the red buff into the node. In the next room, you’ll find another red node. Get the red buff from the node next to the left of the starting portal. Deposit it, and you’ll find the fourth Vex specimen.
Collecting the final Vex specimen will spawn the secret chest, unlocking the second exotic catalyst—Destabilizing Rounds Refit for Choir of One.
