Destiny 2 players are frustrated with the short length of Episode Revenant’s Act 1, which promised to solve time-gating issues from previous seasons but left many completing the story in just one hour.

Destiny 2’s highly anticipated Episode Revenant released earlier this week, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. This latest episode follows Episode Echoes, which faced widespread criticism for its timegating of content, where players were required to wait weeks between story segments.

With Episode Revenant, Bungie promised to address this issue by releasing all of each act’s story content upfront, allowing players to experience an entire act on day one, without the long waits that plagued Echoes.

However, while players were excited about this change, the reality of Episode Revenant has left many frustrated, with some reporting they completed the entire story in less than an hour.

Destiny 2 Players Criticize Episode Revenant Act 1 for Its Short Length

Shortly after Episode Revenant launched, players flooded online forums like Reddit and the official Bungie forums to voice their frustrations. As of now, two major threads on the DestinyTheGame subreddit are gaining traction—one with over a thousand comments and another approaching four hundred replies.

One Reddit user said: “I spent longer reinstalling than playing,” while another expressed disbelief that the entire act was already over, asking, “There is no way… the entirety of Act 1 was less than an hour. You have to be joking?”

Many fans had hoped that releasing all of Act 1 at once would offer a more satisfying, fleshed-out story experience. Instead, they found themselves finishing it in one sitting, with one user sarcastically noting, “I honestly thought I had completed week 1 but no, it was the complete act.”

Another user noted, “I don’t even understand how they would have separated that into four weeks originally, would have been fifteen minutes of content per week.”

One X (Twitter) user said, “I don’t know what Bungie was hoping to accomplish with this season, but it’s just…bad. The entire Act 1 story took like an hour to complete and it’s 70% just listening to dialogue. There’s basically no new content to play, it’s just rehashed Onslaught.”

Others pointed out the irony, as the short length of the act made Bungie’s decision to timegate Echoes seem more justified. “This is exactly why Bungie was timegating stuff to begin with. There’s hardly any content,” one player remarked.

Episode Revenant Act 2 launches on November 19, 2024, six weeks from now. In the meantime, there are new weapons and armor to chase, with the Festival of the Lost event returning at the end of this month.

In other news, it appears Destiny 2 is getting a new crossover with Capcom’s Street Fighter. What are your thoughts on the Episode Revenant content so far? Let us know in the comments below.
