Bungie has shared more details on Destiny 2 Episode Heresy’s content release structure.

Bungie’s recent experiment with content delivery in Destiny 2 has been a hot topic in the community. When Episode Revenant launched, it broke away from the traditional weekly model, releasing all story content for each act on day one.

While some players enjoyed the freedom to play at their own pace, many found themselves running out of things to do in the weeks that followed. With this in mind, Bungie has announced a new approach for the upcoming Episode Heresy, aiming to address these issues while keeping players engaged week after week.

In the latest This Week in Destiny blog post, Bungie shared new details about Heresy’s release structure. The team acknowledged lessons learned from the “all-in” format of Revenant and shared how they plan to strike a middle ground for Heresy.

Destiny 2 Episode Heresy Content Release Structure

Episode Heresy’s content delivery system will blend the best of both worlds, dropping a significant chunk of content on day one but still provide meaningful reasons to log in weekly for new challenges and story developments.

“Heresy will have weekly content and story delivery,” said Bungie in the latest This Week in Destiny article. We understand your concerns about our return to this approach, but we have learned a lot from the ‘all-in’ format in Revenant, so in Heresy we’re striking a balance between everything dropping on day one of an Act vs. meaningful reasons to log-in throughout the Episode.”

Most activities will be available on the first day of each act, but the story will progress weekly, giving players a reason to return. Bungie also revealed that each week will feature a Seasonal Challenge rewarding “a new tier of seasonal Weapon.”

Additionally, Heresy will break away from fixed act lengths: Act II, for instance, is set to run for just three weeks “instead of the standard five or six.” All reprised weapons for the episode will be available on launch day, while the second half of episodic weapons will debut alongside Act II.

“Our goal is to tell a satisfying and exciting story that both serves as an epilogue to the Light and Darkness Saga and that helps pave the way for what’s to come when Codename: Frontiers launches later this year.”

Fans won’t have to wait long for a closer look. Bungie has announced a developer reveal livestream for Episode Heresy Act I on January 28, 2025, at 10 AM PT. This will include a gameplay preview of what’s coming in this final episode of the year and more details about the “Heretical Arsenal” seasonal weapons.

It’s worth mentioning that Bungie also announced a ton of new changes to exotic weapons and armor coming with Episode Heresy. Make sure to check out our dedicated articles covering both updates here, and here.
