Destiny 2 players are reporting major game-breaking bugs after the launch of Episode Heresy, with abilities, weapons, and mechanics not working properly.
Destiny 2’s latest update, Episode: Heresy, was launched over a week ago, bringing in new content for players like the Nether seasonal activity. Bungie also released a brand-new dungeon in Destiny 2 called “Sundered Doctrine” last week.
The dungeon takes players back to the Rhulk’s pyramid ship in the Savathun’s Throne World. But as exciting as all this sounds, it hasn’t been smooth sailing. Over the past year, Destiny 2 has seen its fair share of technical issues, including game-breaking glitches and performance problems.
Now, it seems Episode Heresy has brought one of the weirdest bugs yet, with players reporting widespread problems across various activities.
Players Say Destiny 2 Is Breaking In Multiple Ways
Since the update went live, there have been multiple reports across social media platforms with complaints about major bugs that are affecting nearly every aspect of the game. Right now, there’s a top post on r/DestinyTheGame that reports that after playing for an extended period without going to orbit or restarting, multiple gameplay mechanics start to break down.
Players have noticed that perks and abilities stop functioning entirely, making it impossible to activate healing effects like Devour and Restoration. Enemy debuffs, such as Slow, reportedly fail to apply. Some have reported that when switching weapons, their guns become completely invisible (this has happened before), leaving them unable to tell what they are using.
More bizarrely, animations for abilities like Rifts and Finishers no longer play, leaving players stuck in a strange first-person perspective instead of shifting to third-person as intended. Mechanics stop working in certain activities, such as the light-reflecting puzzle in the Sundered Doctrine.
Here’s the list of all the reported bugs so far:
- Perks and abilities stop working. (e.g., Devour, Cure, Restoration)
- Debuffs (e.g., Slow) fail to apply to enemies.
- Glaives stop gaining shield energy on projectile hits.
- Weapons become invisible when swapping.
- Abilities with third-person animations (like Finishers, and Rifts) stay in first-person with no animation.
- Activity mechanics break. (e.g., dungeon lenses not lighting up wheels)
- Your weapon bullets originate from a previous location instead of the player’s current position.
- Weapons swap on their own, when using Ascension.
Some players have also experienced a strange issue where their bullets and projectiles originate from where they were standing moments before rather than from their actual position.
The above Reddit thread has multiple replies from different users experiencing similar bugs across the game. Others described their experience in activities like The Nether, where weapons would suddenly disappear mid-fight.
“I was running my Prismatic wormy build for Warlock and my Grenades, Class ability, and Tangles just weren’t spawning any Threadlings,” one player said. “Phoenix Dive was first person, weapons were invisible, Devour wasn’t healing even while active, and my entire build just felt like spaghetti code.”
Many players suspect this issue could be tied to a memory leak, as Destiny 2 has suffered from similar problems in the past. Some have noted that playing for an extended period without going to orbit seems to increase the likelihood of encountering these bugs.
Some players also reported that Rally Flags were behaving inconsistently, sometimes failing to restore abilities and ammo properly. As of now, Bungie has not publicly acknowledged the issue or provided any official response.
