A new Destiny 2 leak suggests Bungie is adding a Taken-themed shader called “Umbral Rumble” in Episode: Heresy.

Bungie has been going all out with shaders lately. In the past few months, Destiny 2 players have finally gotten their hands on Superblack and the newly added Chatterwhite shader. On top of that, Bungie even introduced a cel-shaded look with the Offset shader in the Game2Give charity event.

Now, it looks like another long-requested shader is on the way, and this time, it’s something Taken-inspired. Episode Heresy, which launched earlier this month, focuses on the Hive storylines with Xivu Arath, Savathun, as well as Oryx, The Taken King, taking center stage.

And if recent leaks are anything to go by, Bungie is taking that theme even further by finally giving players a Taken-style shader.

Is Bungie Finally Adding a Taken Shader in Destiny 2?

According to datamined information, a new shader called “Umbral Rumble” has been found in Destiny 2’s files. The leak was shared by dataminers in the Bungie Leaks Discord server, who managed to apply the shader effect on ripped character models, giving us a rough idea of what it might look like in-game.

As seen in the early preview, the shader has a dark, cloudy appearance that resembles the Taken effect found in Destiny. However, it looks somewhat unfinished, with repeated textures and patterns across the armor sets.

This suggests that the final version could include extra effects like animated particles or a shifting texture, which aren’t visible in the datamined model. Right now, there’s no official word on how to unlock Umbral Rumble. The shader is currently classified in the API, and its release date is also unknown.

Here’s an early preview of the shader:

As with any datamined content, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt until Bungie makes an official announcement.

In other leaks, Bungie is also reportedly bringing back another fan-favorite exotic sniper rifle, New Land Beyond, following Ice Breaker’s return. Here’s everything you need to know about it, including how to get it, newly updated perks, stats, and more.
