Here is our full breakdown of all 9 Renegades Abilities in Destiny 2, including how they work, how to use them, and what each one does.
Destiny 2’s Star Wars-themed expansion, Renegades, is right around the corner, launching December 2, 2025, and Bungie just showed off a new system coming with this expansion: the Renegades Abilities. If you remember how The Edge of Fate added Kepler destination abilities, Renegades is following the same path. This time, it’s tied to its Lawless Frontier activity, and it brings a full set of tools that you can call in during missions.
During the latest developer livestream, Bungie ran through every one of these abilities, showed how they work, and explained why they’re now a major part of the Renegades sandbox. So in this article, we’re going through all nine of them, how to use them, and what they actually do in-game.

What are Renegades Abilities in Destiny 2?
Renegades abilities in Destiny 2 are a brand-new set of abilities that act as extra tools you can deploy during Lawless Frontier activity. They’re not replacements for your subclass abilities. Think of them as bonus charges that sit on top of your normal build. You hit a button to ready the ability, throw out a coin-like token, and that token activates whatever you selected, healing, recon, artillery, vehicles, shields, and more.
These abilities level up through the new syndicate progression system. As you work with factions in Tharsis Junction, you unlock upgrades that make each ability stronger, give you more charges, longer duration, or extra effects.

How many Renegades Abilities are there?
There are nine in total. Each one fills a different role, so you can build toward healing, recon, raw damage, defense, or mobility depending on what you’re doing in Lawless Frontier or Invasions. These are:
- Revitalize
- Recon Shank
- Strafing Run
- Imperium Drop Pod
- Imperium Behemoth
- Piker Mortar
- Falcon
- Vex Deflector
- Vex Stun Field
Each of these abilities has 7 levels of upgrades, with each upgrade making the abilities better and better.
How to use Renegades Abilities
You activate them with the Renegades button: R3 on controller or Z on keyboard. Once you press it, your grenade and melee buttons temporarily switch to your selected Renegades Abilities. From there, you throw a token that triggers the effect.
You pick the abilities you want in the ready room before starting a job, and Invaders get their own selection screen too.
