After three months, Bungie’s already walked back a ton of Edge of Fate changes in Destiny 2, and with Renegades launching soon, even more changes are on the way.
When Edge of Fate launched in July, Bungie overhauled nearly every core system in Destiny 2. It was probably the biggest update (in terms of overhauls) the game has ever had. The expansion introduced a new Armor 3.0 overhaul, a new Gear Tier system, Armor stats changes, and infusion via a new currency called Unstable Cores.
The biggest change of all, though, was the arrival of the Portal, a new hub that now serves as the main hub for power progression across the entire game. Bungie also reworked a bunch of long-standing systems that players had gotten used to over the years, like how Power and Deltas functioned, as well as introducing Featured Gear for select exotics in the game.
Fast forward three months: the backlash has forced Bungie into a series of U-turns. Most of those sweeping changes are already being undone, and with the Renegades expansion over a month away, more reversions are locked in.
All the Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Changes Bungie Is Reverting (So Far)
To get a fuller picture, a community member, CourtProjects, created a very handy infographic titled “The Great Edge of Fate Walk Back” that tracks all the major additions and changes from Edge of Fate that Bungie has already reverted or plans to revert in Renegades. The infographic features changes announced “as of Oct 2025 (Update 9.1.5.1).”
Note: This probably isn’t the full list of reversions, just the major ones confirmed so far. We’ll keep this list updated as more changes are found or officially announced.
Below is everything major that was added in Edge of Fate and has since been or will be reversed:
- Power / Delta overhauls rolled back, “shift back to activity Deltas”
- Removing the requirement that only Prime drops could advance max leveling (400 to 450, 500 to 550)
- Sandbox changes reverted (exotics like Strongholds, Chromatic Fire, etc.)
- Raid & Dungeon adjustments reversed:
- –10 Delta changes
- Improved Desert Perpetual tiered loot
- Removed triumph requirement for tier increases
- Removed Exotic farm limit on legacy raids/dungeons
- Conquests can now be played multiple times (previously, you could only launch it once)
- Featured Gear score bonuses removed (used to contribute to Portal scoring, it’s now always active)
- Portal scores and rewards are now based on Base Power, not equipped Power
- Unstable Cores economy changes reversed (Infusion costs have been reduced dramatically)
Coming in Renegades (Dec 2):
- Featured Gear bonuses will be flattened: instead of scaling by gear tier, all Featured Gear gets a flat bonus (Weapons 5%, Armor 10%)
- All Exotic Gear will count as Featured Gear (no rotations)
- Unstable Cores will be removed entirely as an infusion currency
- Power will no longer reset every season (previously planned every 6 months). There’s also no Power Level increase in Renegades.
These walkbacks come at a time when Destiny 2 is facing some tough challenges. Player numbers have dropped to historic lows, even worse than the Curse of Osiris lows, when Bungie said it was weeks away from shutting down the game entirely.
Bungie is clearly trying to win folks back. That includes a massive $35 charity bundle that includes every major expansion, including Edge of Fate and Renegades, on Green Man Gaming. In other news, a Bungie concept art shared some never-before-seen concept art showcasing Bungie’s early vision for the Pyramid ships, Cloud Striders, and more.
So that’s the picture so far. Bungie has already pulled back on most of the controversial features from Edge of Fate. What do you think of all the reversions so far? Are you happy with the direction heading into Renegades? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
