Crota’s End has finally returned this year in Destiny 2 with the launch of Season of the Witch. The raid itself has been updated with better visuals, new encounter mechanics, along some new and returning rewards.

Destiny 2 Bottomless Pit: How to get Essence of the Oversoul
The Essence of the Oversoul is a returning material in Destiny 2 that is part of the Bottomless Pit exotic quest for Necrochasm. The material is required to upgrade the Legendary variant of the weapon (Eidolon Ally) to Necrochasm. Here are some of the ways you can get the Essence of the Oversoul in Destiny 2.
Crota’s End Raid Encounters
One of the ways to collect the Essence of the Oversoul is by completing the raid encounters in the Crota’s End raid. However, keep in mind that the Essence is not a guaranteed drop on every encounter completion, it’s RNG!
Crota’s End Raid Triumphs
The second way to get Essence of the Oversoul is from the raid triumphs. If you check the list of Triumphs for the Crota’s End raid, you will notice that some triumphs give you the Essence of the Oversoul upon completion.
Overall, there are 11 Triumphs that offer Essence rewards. Below, you can find the list of these Triumphs, along with the corresponding amount of Essence of the Oversoul that you can acquire from each.
- Perfected Truth: Complete all encounters in the “Crota’s End” raid without dying and without leaving the activity. (Reward: Essence of the Oversoul +3 and Shed Carapace shader.
- In Unison: Complete all encounters of the “Crota’s End” raid with a full fireteam of the same class. (Reward: Essence of Oversoul +1)
- Conservation of Energy: Complete the “Conservation of Energy” challenge mode. (Reward: Essence of Oversoul +1)
- Feather-Light: Complete the Abyss encounter in the Stills without letting any player reach 10 stacks of Weight of Darkness. (Reward: Essence of Oversoul +1)
- Precarious Balance: Complete the “Precarious Balance” challenge mode. (Reward: Essence of Oversoul +1)
- Threatening Reach: Defeat all Swordbearers in the Oversoul Throne Bridge encounter from the opposite side of the chasm. (Reward: Essence of Oversoul +1)
- Equal Vessels: Complete the “Equal Vessels” challenge mode. (Reward: Essence of Oversoul +1)
- Communal Rites: During each round of the Ir Yut encounter, at least one player must expunge Ir Yut. (Reward: Essence of Oversoul +1)
- All For One: Complete the “All For One” challenge mode. (Reward: Essence of Oversoul +1)
- Singular Sensation: Complete the Crota, Son of Oryx encounter with only one player Enlightened at a time. (Reward: Essence of Oversoul +1)
- Broken Throne: Complete the Master tier of “Crota’s End.” (Reward: War’s Lament exotic ship and Essence of the Oversoul +2)
Is Essence of the Oversoul Farmable?
Yes, you can farm the Essence of the Oversoul by completing the Crota’s End raid encounters repeatedly. This means even if you’ve completed your first weekly run of the raid, you can farm any of the four encounters repeatedly for a chance to get the Essence of the Oversoul.
As mentioned above, the Essence is an RNG drop. So, do not expect them to drop on every encounter completion.
