Sucker Punch co-director Nate Fox says he’d love to revisit Infamous or see a trilogy rerelease, but right now, the team is focused on Ghost of Yotei.
For years now, fans of Infamous have been asking the same question: Will Sucker Punch ever return to one of PlayStation’s most beloved superhero series? The original Infamous launched back in 2009 for the PlayStation 3, introducing players to Cole MacGrath and his electricity-fueled powers.
It was followed by Infamous 2 in 2011 and Festival of Blood later that same year, wrapping up Cole’s story. Then came the PS4 era with Infamous Second Son and its standalone DLC, First Light, both starring Delsin Rowe and Fetch.
The franchise built a passionate fanbase thanks to its explosive powers, comic book vibes, and that iconic karma system that let players lean into heroism or pure destruction. But after 2014, Infamous went quiet. Sucker Punch shifted its focus to something new: Ghost of Tsushima, and now, Ghost of Yotei.
Still, with fans constantly asking about a return to the Infamous series, one of the studio’s directors has finally spoken up.
Sucker Punch Dev Opens Up About Infamous and the Possibility of a Return
In a new interview with Game Informer, Sucker Punch co-director Nate Fox was asked directly if the studio would consider going back to Infamous. His response didn’t confirm anything, but it also didn’t shut the door.
Fox said the desire is definitely there, but the team is all-in on Ghost of Yotei right now:
“I would love to work on more Infamous,” he said. “I would love to see a trilogy rerelease, but Sucker Punch is a one game at a time shop, and right now we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yotei.”
That’s a pretty clear sign that if anything Infamous-related is going to happen, it’ll have to wait until Sucker Punch wraps up their next samurai adventure. And honestly, that makes sense; they’ve put years into the Ghost franchise, and they’re not done yet.
But here’s another idea: maybe Sony doesn’t need to wait on Sucker Punch. Studios like Bluepoint Games or Nixxes Software, both known for remasters and ports, could be a perfect fit to give the original trilogy the PS5 treatment.
It’s not a confirmation, but it’s the most anyone at Sucker Punch has said about Infamous in a long time, and for fans, that might be just enough to hold onto some hope.
