After months of speculation and build-up, Nintendo is finally preparing to reveal more details about its next console: the Nintendo Switch 2. Following its official announcement back in January 2025, fans have been counting the days until the April 2 Nintendo Direct, which will showcase the console in full. This event could also give us a look at some of the launch games, pricing, and possibly even a release date.
The hype around the Switch 2 has only grown, thanks to a steady stream of leaks and insider reports. From talk of a more powerful chip and an 8-inch LCD screen to backward compatibility and a possible $399 price tag, there’s no shortage of speculation.
Now, a new report has added even more fuel to the fire, including new details about how Nintendo plans to roll out its Switch 2 games throughout the year.
New Report Outlines Nintendo’s 3-Phase Switch 2 Game Launch
According to Insider Gaming, the Switch 2 is currently planned to launch in June 2025, and Nintendo is reportedly going with a three-phase approach for its game releases. This information comes from discussions at this year’s GDC (Game Developers Conference) and sources close to the company’s plans.
Here’s how it’s expected to go down:
- Phase 1 will kick things off in June, focusing mostly on first-party titles from Nintendo itself.
- Phase 2 is said to land around October to November, and will be centered around third-party games, as studios are expecting Switch 2 development kits from Nintendo in June.
- Phase 3 is planned for the holiday period, wrapping up the year with more titles, potentially a mix of both Nintendo and third-party releases.
The report also claims that select media and creators will get hands-on access to the console and launch games next week, just ahead of the official release. That’s a big deal, since it means previews could drop not long after the April 2 presentation.
“Select media and creators will be attending Nintendo Switch 2 hands-on next week, where they’ll get hands-on with the console and some of its launch games for a few hours,” the report reads.
This lines up with previous insider reports, including claims from known leakers like eXtas1s, who have pointed to a late June 2025 release window. As for what games to expect, rumors suggest Switch 2 will get the following game releases at or post-launch:
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
- Elden Ring
- Tekken 8
- Call of Duty (potentially Black Ops 6 or Warzone)
- Fallout 4
- Starfield
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
- Halo: The Master Chief Collection
- Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero
