Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-order Date Might’ve Just Slipped Early

According to a recent blog post from Best Buy Canada, it looks like pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will go live the same day as the Direct, Wednesday, April 2, 2025. While Nintendo hasn’t said anything official yet, this detail being posted by a major retailer gives it some real weight. Best Buy also confirmed it’ll be opening up those pre-orders right after the presentation.

“Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will open on April 2nd at Best Buy Canada, giving you the chance to secure your console early,” the article reads. Earlier reports claim that the Switch 2 will hit store shelves sometime in late June 2025. So, if you’ve been waiting to lock in your order, April 2 might be your shot.

So, what exactly are we getting with this new console? Based on leaked specs, the Switch 2 is shaping up to be a big step up from the original. It’s rumored to come with a more powerful Nvidia T239 chip, 12GB of fast LPDDR5 memory, and even support for ray tracing. Joy-Cons will snap on magnetically this time, and it’ll have a sturdier U-shaped kickstand for tabletop play.

As for the games, we’ve heard whispers of a new Mario Kart and ports like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Elden Ring being ready to go around launch.
