Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate expansion is bringing some new Champion system changes. Here’s the full updated stun chart and every way to counter Champions in 2025.
The Edge of Fate expansion is looking more and more like one of the biggest core updates Destiny 2 has ever had. Dropping on July 15, 2025, this expansion kicks off Bungie’s new annual release format, moving away from the old seasonal model. Instead of four short seasons, we’re now getting two annual expansions, with four Major updates per year.
We’re also getting a whole new loot structure. There’s now a gear tiering system that separates loot into five tiers, and an armor stats overhaul. There’s also The Portal that aims to streamline the new (and veteran) player experience in the game.
Another change coming with the Edge of Fate is how you deal with Champions. In this article, we’re breaking down exactly how stunning Champions works in Destiny 2: Edge of Fate, including Bungie’s updated stun chart, how subclass verbs fit in, and which weapons and mods you’ll need to bring the pain.
How to Stun Champions in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate
In Edge of Fate, Bungie has made some important updates to how stunning a Champion works, which clean things up and expand your options. The core stun methods haven’t changed; you’re still relying on Intrinsic Exotics, Subclass Verbs, and Artifact Mods (full Edge of Fate Artifact perks detailed here). But what’s new is that a bunch of Exotic weapons have now been added to the list of those that intrinsically stun Champions.
So, here are the three main ways to stun Champions in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate:
- Intrinsic Exotics: Certain Exotics now come with built-in anti-Champion properties. Bungie has expanded this list in Edge of Fate, making more weapons viable for stunning.
- Subclass Verbs: Effects like Jolt, Ignite, Suspend, and Unravel can still stun specific Champion types when used correctly.
- Artifact Mods: Seasonal mods allow specific weapon archetypes to stun, like Auto Rifles for Overload or Hand Cannons for Unstoppable.
The big change here isn’t the categories, it’s that Bungie has made it a lot easier to understand what works, what doesn’t. Let’s break down how this all works and what’s changed for good.
Destiny 2 Edge of Fate: New Champion Updates
The most important thing to know is what Bungie calls the “soft rule”:
“Weapons that intrinsically have the anti-Champion symbol in the weapon tray cannot receive anti-Champion capabilities from the Artifact or from radiant-like effects. Otherwise, they can receive external anti-Champion capabilities and be able to continue their subclass verb anti-Champ capabilities.” (per the latest TWID blog article)
This helps prevent conflicts and weird behavior when subclass verbs and weapon mods try to activate at the same time. For example, Wicked Implement now stuns Overload Champions on its own and shows the Overload icon. Because of that, you can’t stack it with seasonal Overload perks or Radiant to make it double-dip.
