We know Bungie, creator of the Halo and Destiny franchise, has been working on its next ambitious IP for quite some time now. Earlier today, Bungie posted a new job listing advert for “Senior Marketing Manager” which suggests that Bungie’s new IP may adopt the free-to-play model, similar to what we’ve seen with Destiny 2, along with other major successful titles like Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone.

Under the “Nice-to-have skills” section, it says that the individual has experience with games-as-a-service titles (similar to Destiny 2), MMO, F2P (free-to-play), and mobile. “Experience with enterprise-scale live operations, games as a service, MMO, F2P, and mobile,” the job listing states.

Bungie has been actively hiring for its next IP which is releasing in 2025. Earlier this year in April 2021, we saw another job position for “Multiplayer Systems Designer” for Bungie’s IP in which it stated that the individual must have a “strong familiarity with competitive gaming/esports landscape,” with a lot of focus on competitive gaming and PvP side of things.

Shortly after in May 2021, Bungie was hiring “Sandbox Designer” for its new “multiplayer action game currently in incubation.” The listing states that the candidate must have “experience working on character-focused action games.”

Another position for “Associate Tools Engineer” state that this new IP would have the tools that “content creators use,” and that the individual will “directly interface with content creators to become deeply familiar with the pipeline they use day to day”

While this all hints at a strong PvP-focused hero-shooter that has a competitive landscape and all, we did get a hint that Bungie’s new IP might be a fantasy RPG. Last year, Bungie was hiring for multiple positions for its next IP. The job listings state that this new game would have “comedic with lighthearted and whimsical characters” with RPG elements, loot, necromancy, and dungeons.

In 2018, the company filed a trademark for Matter with an image that’s been widely used for Bungie’s new IP. Speaking of trademarks, Bungie has also filed a trademark for BungieCon which got published earlier this year in January 2021. Bungie also revealed its plans for studio expansion in February 2021, with Destiny universe expanding into other media – movies, tv shows, etc.

As for Destiny 2, Bungie will be hosting a Destiny 2 showcase on August 24, 2021, for the future of Destiny 2 which will reveal Destiny 2’s Season 15, and the next major expansion, The Witch Queen. Maybe we’ll get a sneak peek of other Bungie’s next IP during this showcase? For that, we’ll have to wait and see.
