Destiny 2 Episode Revenant is set to bring some of the most exciting changes the game has seen. Here are the 27 biggest changes players should be looking forward to next week.
We are just two days away from the release of the highly anticipated Destiny 2 Episode Revenant. Set to arrive on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, this new episode follows the storyline of Fikrul, Master of Souls, with some familiar allies returning, including Mithrax, Eido, and The Crow.
Among the most anticipated features are the new activities, exotic armor, complete story drops for each episodic act, returning Crucible map, dungeon contest mode, and more. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the 27 biggest changes Episode Revenant is introducing.
New Release Structure For Episode Revenant Story
Unlike previous seasons where the seasonal stories unfolded on a weekly basis, Episode Revenant will deliver each act’s full narrative in one go. Starting on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, players will have access to all three weeks of story content for Act 1 at once.
The same will apply when Act 2 and Act 3 are released, allowing players to experience the entire storyline without having to wait for weekly updates.
Potion Crafting System
In Episode Revenant, Bungie is introducing Potion Crafting, a new system that lets players create powerful tonics to enhance gameplay. These tonics are split into two types: Volatile Tonics and Enriching Tonics.
Volatile Tonics focus on boosting the effects of seasonal Artifact perks, helping players maximize their builds. Enriching Tonics, on the other hand, are designed to increase rewards from combat and activities, making them essential for those looking to farm loot more efficiently.
Onslaught Salvation: New Maps and Defenses
The seasonal activity in Episode Revenant is Onslaught: Salvation, an updated version of the Onslaught mode initially introduced in the Into The Light update. Bungie has expanded this activity with three new maps, two new defense mechanics, and a new enemy faction.
The new Onslaught Salvation maps include Eventide Ruins, Widow’s Court, and Kell’s Grave. Additionally, players can also use new defenses like the Air Strike and Turret.
Primary Ammo Exotic Grenade Launcher: Alethonym
Episode Revenant introduces Alethonym, a new Stasis exotic grenade launcher that uses primary ammo. This marks the second primary ammo grenade launcher in Destiny 2, following the popular Fighting Lion. Players can unlock Alethonym through the Episode Revenant season pass.
Here’s the full breakdown of the new exotic perks found on the Alethonym exotic grenade launcher.
- Harvester Spike Intrinsic Trait: This weapon fires a Harvester Spike projectile. Dealing final blows with this weapon creates a single Vestige at the target’s location. Impaling more powerful combatants with the projectile creates a steady stream of Vestiges from the target.
- Vestigial Alchemy: This weapon gains energy when picking up Vestiges. Press R with at least 50% energy to cause your next projectile to create ammo bricks for you and your allies on impact. Special bricks are created at 50% energy while Heavy bricks are created at 100% energy.
Double Raid and Dungeon Rotation
Episode Revenant will feature a double raid and dungeon rotation. This means two raids and two dungeons will be featured each week, providing players with more opportunities to grind for those red border weapons and raid exotics.
Starting October 8, 2024, the following end-game activities will enter the raid and dungeon rotation and will change on a weekly basis:
- Raids: Last Wish and Vow of the Disciple
- Dungeons: Shattered Throne and Duality
No More Weapon Crafting for Seasonal Weapons
Bungie is making big changes to weapon crafting moving forward. With Episode Revenant, seasonal weapons will no longer be craftable. Instead, players will be able to get these weapons through new activities.
Players will still be able to get enhanced perks on new seasonal weapons using “extra materials and there will be updates to unlock as you play the Episode to target specific weapons and even get extra perks per column,” said Bungie in a recent blog post.
New Exotic Armor
Episode Revenant will add brand-new exotic armor for each class. Hunters are getting Mask of Fealty exotic helmet, Warlocks are getting Rime-Coat Raiment exotic chest, and Titans are getting Blastwave Striders leg armor.

Reprised Garden of Salvation Weapons
Bungie is finally updating the Garden of Salvation raid, reprising its weapons with updated perk pools in Episode Revenant. Players can now earn these weapons with updated perk pools. Exotic Class Item Attunement
In August 2024, Bungie revealed plans for an Exotic Class Item Attunement system, which would allow players to attune their class items for better chances of receiving specific exotic perks. While the expected release window for this feature was with Episode Revenant, Bungie hasn’t provided any further updates since the announcement.
We will have to wait and see if this feature is still set for launch with Episode Revenant or not. Here’s a work-in-progress preview of what the Exotic Class Item Attunement will look like:
New Iron Banner Armor
Iron Banner fans will be excited to hear about the addition of new armor sets in Episode Revenant. These armor designs take inspiration from Viking aesthetics. According to Bungie, the first Iron Banner in Episode Revenant will go live on Tuesday, November 5, and run until November 19, 2024.
Here’s a preview of the new Iron Banner armor sets arriving in Episode Revenant.
The Inverted Spire Strike Rework
In Episode Revenant, Bungie is revisiting one of the original strikes added in Destiny 2, The Inverted Spire. This revamped strike will feature the Vex as a new enemy type, including Wyverns, along with updated encounters and new enemy defenses.
Bungie also teased that there will be a lot of death lasers in this newer version of the strike.
Weapon Ornaments Update
With Episode Revenant, Bungie is addressing visual issues with certain weapon ornaments. Some ornaments had extra “geometry, decals, or corrupted textures” due to differences between older weapons and newer ornament designs.
“There’s a pretty easy fix for ornaments that have this problem, we just add the old regions to the ornament but don’t put anything in them,” Bungie said in the recent weekly blog article This Week In Destiny. “That makes it so it doesn’t load anything from the base weapon, and only the ornament gets loaded.”
New Dungeon and Ice Breaker Exotic Sniper Rifle
While not directly part of the episode, there’s going to be a brand-new dungeon in Episode Revenant called Vesper’s Host. This new dungeon is coming just three days after the launch of the episode on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Alongside the new dungeon comes the return of Ice Breaker, an exotic sniper rifle beloved by fans for its self-replenishing ammo perk. Learn more about this dungeon exotic and its revamped exotic perk here.
Contest Mode Dungeon and Dungeon Race
For the first time in Destiny 2, there will be a Contest Mode active for the upcoming dungeon, Vesper’s Host, where Power levels are capped to maintain difficulty. The Contest mode will be active for the first 48 hours, starting from Friday, October 11, at 10 AM PT, until Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 10 AM PT.
In addition, there’s also going to be a Dungeon Race for this new dungeon for the first time ever. For more details on the Contest Mode power level cap, completion details, and dungeon race for Vesper’s Host dungeon, check out our dedicated article here.
Reprised PvP Map – Solitude
In Episode Revenant, PvP players can look forward to the return of Solitude, a map originally added in the Warmind expansion. Bungie is making “small changes to geometry and spawn locations” in this updated version of the map to “improve map flow.”
PvP UI Updates
In Episode Revenant, Bungie is making some quality-of-life changes to Destiny 2’s Crucible experience. The new update will include the return of class icons in PvP, allowing players to easily identify opposing classes.
Bungie is also adding a new “Assisted by…” callouts to the death screens UI “that will tell you when the person who defeated you was assisted by another Guardian or Guardians.” Additionally, when your ally is defeated in PvP, you will now see a weapon-type icon displayed beneath the skull icon, indicating the weapon used for the takedown.
Crucible Mercy Rule Change
In Episode Revenant, Bungie is also making some changes to the mercy rule in the 6v6 Crucible playlists. According to the developer, this new update will extend “the window within which a game can mercy and close the gap between disabling JIP [Join in Progress] and enabling a mercy, so that JIP will only be disabled if a mercy is imminent.”
“Due to the increased window, we expect the number of games that end in mercies to increase, but as soon as we have enough data, we will tune the mercy trigger limits for the corresponding game modes as needed.”
Lost Sector Rewards – World Pool Weapons
In Episode Revenant, players will be able to farm world pool weapons in Lost Sectors “the very season they are added to the game,” according to Bungie. Previously, you would have to wait “until the next season or Episode launch to obtain them this way.”
There are also going to be new weapons added to the Lost Sector world pool groups.

To combat “crouch spamming” in PvP, Bungie is introducing a change in Episode Revenant that places a cap on the number of “crouch inputs you can enter per second to equalize Hold to Crouch with Toggle Crouch in terms of its behavior,” Bungie announced in a recent blog article.
“Our goal is to reduce the amount of untargeted crouch spamming, done either manually or via macros, encountered while playing Crucible”

Class-Based Trials Labs
In Episode Revenant, Bungie is introducing a “very special variant of Labs” called Class-Based Trials Labs. In this mode, there will be “no more than one of each class per team, meaning every team will be comprised of “a Titan, Hunter, and Warlock, with no duplicates.”
