With the release of Season of the Witch, Bungie has added a tribute to the late developer who worked on both the original Destiny and Destiny 2 — Cory Barron.
Barron worked at Bungie for over eight years. First joined in 2015 as a Senior Techincal UI/UX Designer for Destiny, and later Destiny 2 in 2018. He contributed to the industry-leading UI for Destiny 2.
Sadly, Barron passed away six weeks after he was diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2022, according to his memorial page. Even though he’s no longer with us, his legacy lives on. Bungie, in a heartfelt gesture, has honored his memory in the game he contributed to.
The latest Destiny 2 update released earlier this week on Tuesday has added a touching tribute to Barron in-game.
Bungie Pays Tribute to Late Destiny Developer In-Game
On Destiny 2’s Destinations tab of the Director map, there is a series of dots running downward on the right end of the screen. These are actually a binary code that, spells out the name “Cory Barron” when translated. The filled diamonds are 1s and empty represent 0s. The binary code can be found below.
“01000011 01101111 01110010 01111001 00100000 01000010 01100001 01110010 01110010 01101111 01101110”
Prior to joining Bungie, Barron spent over nine years working at Sony Santa Monica, where he contributed to the development of several God of War games. His roles included Interface Technical Artist for God of War 2, Lead Interface Technical Artist for God of War 3, and Lead UI for God of War: Ascension.
It is heartwarming to see that Bungie has paid tribute to Barron, a developer who made contributions to both Destiny and its sequel, Destiny 2. Cory’s legacy lives on through his work, and it is touching to see that he is remembered and honored in this way.
