Bungie teased the new Destiny 2 Encore exotic mission nearly five months ago, in April 2024.

Bungie has a long history of adding secrets and Easter eggs in Destiny 2, and Paul MacCartney’s “Hope For The Future” song in the Salvation’s Edge raid is one of the most recent examples.

Another fun Easter Egg is the Vex portal in The Whisper Exotic Mission. Found right after the massive “green room” jumping puzzle, this portal originally displayed a blurry projection of the Vault of Glass raid.

However, with the re-release of The Whisper mission earlier this year with the Into The Light update, Bungie seems to have updated the portal again. Potential spoiler warning!

The recently updated Vex portal in The Whisper mission now shows a new projection, that has a purple hue and a stream of what appears to be the Vex Radiolaria fluid in the middle. This has led to widespread speculation among players that it may be a teaser for upcoming content.

They were right—Bungie was secretly laying the groundwork for a future exotic mission called Encore. The mission, which was released earlier this week as part of Episode Echoes Act 3, takes players deep within Nessus, where they unlock the new exotic auto rifle, Choir of One. Here’s our in-depth guide on how to get this exotic weapon.

If you’ve played the new Encore mission, you might have noticed a waterfall in the starting area. By following the path from the giant sphere, you can actually reach a small ledge behind the waterfall. However, the entrance to the left here is initially blocked.

This secret area becomes accessible when the wall barrier is removed, which happens during the second secret chest puzzle (here’s how to unlock it). After teleporting back to this location, just follow the usual path toward the giant sphere. Drop down into the narrow opening and follow the path—it will lead you straight to the waterfall.

Look to your left, and you’ll see the previously blocked wall has now opened. Entering this room, you’ll notice that it matches the location glimpsed through the portal in The Whisper mission—with Vex Radiolaria streaming through the middle—exactly.

At the end of this area, there’s a large Vex portal. Currently, the portal doesn’t seem to be active, and we might have to wait about a week for this puzzle to become available.

Interestingly, there’s a hidden triumph and emblem linked to the Encore mission, featuring the Whisper of the Worm icon. The triumph is named “Datarunner,” with a description that reads: “Activate the Vex gate and complete the speedrun challenge.”

Completing this triumph will unlock a new emblem called “Transient Whisperer.” Here’s what it looks like:

Apart from that, the final act of Episode Echoes went live in Destiny 2 earlier this week. And with that, Bungie has released a set of new weapons, new Artifact perks, and new story beats. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments below!
