Bungie has rolled back some of its planned Prismatic subclass nerfs in Destiny 2: Edge of Fate, after strong feedback from the community.
Destiny 2’s upcoming Edge of Fate expansion will add some of the biggest changes the game has seen in years. Along with a brand-new destination and a non-linear campaign, players can expect some sweeping changes to core systems.
The expansion, set to launch on July 15, brings the long-awaited Armor 3.0 overhaul, which promises to make gear and stats more meaningful than ever. There’s also a brand-new Portal that aims to help new players, and a new gear tiering system.
This week, Bungie let creators and press go hands-on with the expansion for the first time, and a ton of new previews hit the internet. Alongside all the hype and excitement, one particular change caught the attention of the community, and not in a good way.
Bungie had originally planned to dramatically reduce the number of fragment slots available on some of the most popular Prismatic subclass Aspects, including Titan’s Consecration and Knockout, Hunter’s Stylish Executioner, and Warlock’s Feed the Void. These were set to be nerfed down to just one slot, which set off a strong reaction from Destiny 2 players.
Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Prismatic Subclass Changes
After the strong response, Bungie took to the Destiny 2 Team account on X (Twitter) today to directly address the situation and share some important updates. Its statement not only explained the reasoning behind the initial nerfs but also laid out exactly what’s changing based on community feedback.
The developer said that while the Prismatic subclasses have been extremely popular, they’ve also become a bit too powerful, especially when it comes to survivability and damage output. The studio acknowledged that simply bringing all other subclasses up to Prismatic’s level wouldn’t be healthy for the game, so it planned some nerfs for the Edge of Fate release.
However, after seeing the feedback from players, Bungie is now pulling back on some of the planned changes and looking for a middle ground.
“During our hands-on preview for Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, we shared an early look at Prismatic tuning planned for Destiny 2 Update 9.0.0,” the post reads. “This tuning pass reduced the number of Fragments that could be placed on various Aspects, as we’ve found the Prismatic subclasses have been a bit hot since release.
“Certain Prismatic builds have increased damage output and survivability to a point where some challenges can feel trivial, and bringing everything else up to Prismatic’s level wouldn’t help to solve this issue in a healthy manner. We see this conversation about ‘power creep’ frequently, which is why we take time to tune things up or down during release timelines; this gives us an opportunity to reign in outliers when new content is coming online.
“While we’re still planning an overall tuning pass for Prismatic for a future date, featuring buffs alongside other changes, we’ll be changing our approach for The Edge of Fate a bit in response to your feedback. Aspects that were originally planned to be reduced to 1 fragment slot will remain at 2.
“We feel this is a good middle ground where some of the more potent Aspects are being tuned down, but not too much. Of course, we’ll be playtesting this change internally before The Edge of Fate launch as well to make sure it’s the right decision.”
