A new Resident Evil 9: Requiem leak has revealed details about the main characters and location.

Resident Evil fans have been waiting for years to see where Capcom would take the series next, and now we finally have some big answers. After a year of rumors, leaks, and wild guesses, the ninth mainline Resident Evil game was officially announced at Summer Game Fest 2025 today, confirming the title: Resident Evil Requiem.

The excitement around this reveal has been building for a long time. Rumors have flown everywhere, from talk about fan-favorite characters coming back, to supposed leaks about spooky island settings and abandoned hospitals.

Some of those stories were true, others not so much. But now, with Capcom’s official reveal, the mystery is finally starting to clear up, at least a little bit. The game’s official trailer showed off dark hallways, a world left in chaos, and that familiar Resident Evil feeling of not knowing what’s around the next corner. But as always, fans are already asking: Will we finally see certain beloved characters make their return?

Resident Evil Requiem Leak Reveals New Details

Not long before the big showcase, a well-known insider, Dusk Golem, who’s had a pretty reliable track record with Resident Evil leaks, hinted that we’d see the new game announced at Summer Game Fest.

Just after the official reveal, that same source shared even more: this new chapter, Resident Evil Requiem, will feature Leon S. Kennedy as one of the main characters, alongside a brand new face, Grace Ashcroft, who is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from earlier in the series.

When someone asked if the game was going back to Raccoon City, Dusk Golem replied, “Do not worry, that is not the primary setting of the game, just a place visited.” So, while players might see some familiar locations, the main story will be set elsewhere.

They also commented about Leon’s role in the game. When asked about seeing more of Leon, he said that Leon is the “main character of the game” and that the developer will “show [more about] him later.” This suggests that while Leon S. Kennedy is central to the story, Capcom may be saving his big reveal for another trailer or showcase.

Update, June 6, 5:38 PM PT: In a new post on X, the leaker has clarified that Leon is the main playable character in Resident Evil Requiem, and players will play as him for most of the game, even if early trailers focus more on Grace.

“Leon is the main character of RE9 Requiem. You won’t fully see him for a bit (though he is in the trailer), but in the final game, you play far more as Leon than Grace. Becomes more obvious as marketing continues, into the final game.”

Original Story: The official Resident Evil Requiem website and trailer promise a “heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core,” describing Requiem as a brand new era for the series. The game is set to release on February 27, 2026, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

Here’s the full description from the official website:

“Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living. Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth title in the mainline Resident Evil series. Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core. A new era of survival horror begins in 2026.

Technological advancements combined with the development team’s depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before.”

As for other characters, unfortunately, details on the full cast and plot are still under wraps. Of course, it’s always smart to keep a healthy bit of skepticism with leaks, even when the source has been right before. At the moment, there’s no word on when the next Resident Evil showcase will happen, so we’ll all have to wait for more news.
