A new report claims Sony plans to start PlayStation 6 production in early to mid-2027, pointing toward a late 2027 or early 2028 launch window.

Sony hasn’t officially announced the PlayStation 6 yet, but more and more reports are starting to paint a clearer picture of when it could arrive. The latest leak claims that Sony will begin production on its next-gen console in mid to early 2027, lining up with previous rumors suggesting a late 2027 or early 2028 launch window.

This new detail comes from YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead, who says he has seen documents confirming the manufacturing schedule. According to him, this is the exact window Sony has set to begin manufacturing the PS6. While there’s always a chance for changes or delays, it’s the most specific production-related leak we’ve seen so far.

“I literally have a document showing when they’re manufacturing these, and it’s in the middle to even early 2027, and that’s exactly when they manufacture the PS6,” he said.

PS6 Production Reportedly Set for 2027

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard whispers about the PlayStation 6’s schedule. Earlier leaks and reports have also pointed to a 2027-2028 release window. The reports align with Sony’s traditional seven-to-eight-year console cycle, which would put the PS6’s launch right on schedule following the PS5’s 2020 debut.

MLID’s video also goes over several of the previous claims, including that Sony is working on two APUs this generation: one for the main console and another for a handheld device codenamed “Canis. The handheld is reportedly designed to offer PS5-level performance in older games, while staying portable and affordable.

The leaker speculates that the PlayStation 6 could be priced somewhere between $550 and $700 for the base model, with the digital version possibly launching at around $549. As always, none of this has been officially confirmed by Sony. While MLID has a track record of accurate hardware leaks, it’s best to take everything with a grain of salt until the company itself shares concrete details.

Adding to that, another well-known leaker, KeplerL2, recently claimed that Sony’s PlayStation 6 release window is locked for 2027, not just a target. Additionally, reports suggest that the PS6 will feature a simpler, more compact design than the PS5 and will keep the detachable disc drive concept introduced with the PS5 Slim.
