A new leak hints that Sony might be adding a “Cross-Buy” feature for PS5, PC, and possibly a new PlayStation handheld, connecting future purchases across platforms.
A new leak has PlayStation fans talking this week after known dataminer Amethxst shared what appears to be new system icons hidden within PlayStation’s backend, hinting at something that could finally bring “Cross-Buy” support between PS5, PC, and even the rumored PS6 handheld console.
According to Amethxst, these icons were recently added to PlayStation’s website and developer tools, featuring tags for “Cross-Buy,” “PS5,” “PC,” and an “Echo Mode.” They claim the new assets are official Sony UI symbols, complete with unique Unicode font codes (ranging from EF5B to EF61), and that they’re visible directly on PS5 systems, not PS4.

To back up the claim, the user posted a short video on X (formerly Twitter), showing the interface with the newly added icons in action. “The screen is real,” they wrote, adding that these specific icons didn’t exist earlier this year. In fact, they say that these were likely added sometime between March and late October 2025.
What “Cross-Buy” Feature Could Mean for PlayStation
If true, this points to something PlayStation users have long wanted: buying a game once and getting access on both console and PC. While Xbox has offered this for years with its “Play Anywhere” program, Sony has generally kept its PC and console platforms separate.
There are a couple of different ways this could go. One option is that Sony is preparing a dedicated PC launcher, something that’s already been hinted at through past datamines. That would make cross-buy features much easier to manage, especially with more PlayStation exclusives now launching on Steam and Epic Games Store.
The other possibility? This could be something designed for the rumored PS6 handheld. Sony recently released the PlayStation Portal, but that only supports Remote Play. If Sony is working on a proper standalone portable, something more in line with a PS Vita successor, a unified Cross-Buy system between PS5 and PC (or handheld) would make a lot of sense.

Of course, it’s all unconfirmed for now, and should be taken with a hefty grain of salt. Sony hasn’t announced anything official about these symbols or the feature they might represent.
