Here’s our complete guide on how to unlock all 12 Praxic Blade Dark Matter Crystals in Destiny 2, including every color, drop source, and the fastest farms for each one.
Praxic Blade is already one of the coolest Exotics in Destiny 2. It is a kinetic Exotic sword that uses Special ammo, which you can throw out and recall. It can also reflect shots back at enemies. On top of that, you have all the different customization options like Blade Forms, Focuses, Power Cores, and of course, exotic catalysts.
Then there are the Dark Matter Crystals. These are exotic items that change the color of Praxic Blade’s blade, so you are not stuck with just the default glow. You can swap to classic blue, go full Sith red, use a gradient blade, or even a Taken-themed version.

In this guide, we are going over how you can get every Dark Matter Crystal and change your Praxic Blade color in Destiny 2.
How many Praxic Blade Dark Matter Crystals are there in Destiny 2?
Right now, there are 12 Dark Matter Crystals in Destiny 2. Each crystal represents a different color option for Praxic Blade, and they are account wide. That means once you unlock a crystal on one character, it is available for all your characters. Some crystals come from quests and activities, some are random drops from specific content, and three are sold in Eververse for Silver after you meet a requirement.
Here is the full list of Praxic Blade Dark Matter Crystal colors:
- Dark Matter Crystal: Green
- Dark Matter Crystal: Blue
- Dark Matter Crystal: Red
- Dark Matter Crystal: Yellow
- Dark Matter Crystal: Cyan
- Dark Matter Crystal: Orange
- Dark Matter Crystal: Magenta
- Dark Matter Crystal: Indigo
- Dark Matter Crystal: Taken
- Dark Matter Crystal: White
- Dark Matter Crystal: Purple
- Dark Matter Crystal: Gradient
Now let’s go through how to unlock each of these colors, starting with the ones you earn through gameplay, then finishing with the Eververse options.

How to get all Praxic Blade Dark Matter Crystals in Destiny 2
Dark Matter Crystal: Green
Green is the default Dark Matter Crystal for Praxic Blade. You unlock this one simply by getting the sword itself. Once you complete the Fire and Ice Exotic mission and claim Praxic Blade for the first time, the Green Dark Matter Crystal unlocks automatically. There is no extra quest step or hidden requirement here. If you can equip Praxic Blade, you already have access to the green blade color in your appearance screen.

Dark Matter Crystal: Blue
Blue is tied to the Praxic Path Exotic quest that becomes available after you finish the Renegades campaign. Once the story is done, you receive a questline from Aunor Mahal that requires you to meditate in the Tharsis Outpost. From there, you’ll ned to visit the Tharsis Bazaar to purchase your first Praxic Blade mod.
The important step is equipping that new blade mod on Praxic Blade, which advances the quest. After that, the quest sends you back into the Fire and Ice mission with Praxic Blade equipped. During this step, you need to complete the mission and get a chunk of kills with the sword, roughly around a few dozen enemies.
Once you finish the mission and complete the rest of the Praxic Path steps, you return to Aunor, turn in the quest, and you’ll get the Dark Matter Crystal: Blue as a reward. This is usually the first alternate color most players unlock.

Dark Matter Crystal: Red
Red drops from the Invasion mode of the Lawless Frontier activity, and it works as an RNG reward tied to that activity, not a guaranteed quest completion. To unlock it, you need to play Invasion and use at least one Deathmark during your run. (No, you don’t need multiple Deathmarks for this)
After you finish the activity, a rewards chest appears next to the node where you trade in Extractable Lockboxes. The Red crystal can drop from that chest.
This is not a one-and-done objective. Expect to run Invasion several times before you see the Red crystal drop. Some runs can be failed and still count. Players have reported that the crystal can drop even if the Invasion attempt does not end in a full clear, as long as they used a Deathmark and opened the chest at the end. Again, keep in mind that this is an RNG drop, so you’ll have to do multiple runs of the activity until it drops.

Dark Matter Crystal: Yellow
Yellow is tied to the new Orders system. To get it, you need an Exotic Order called Praxic Professional Gunsmith Order. Here’s how to get an Exotic Order: complete Legendary Orders as they become available, and those have a chance to give you the Exotic Order: Praxic Professional on completion. Once that Exotic Order appears in your inventory, you can start working on the actual Yellow crystal requirement.
Praxic Professional must be completed in a Pinnacle Ops activity on Expert difficulty or higher while using Praxic Blade, and you need to do it without dying. On top of that, the objective asks you to defeat a large number of combatants with the sword, roughly in the hundreds.

A very efficient strategy is to load into the Whisper mission, drop down into the well-known green room with infinite Thrall. You can keep farming even after the mission timer expires, as long as you stay alive. After about ten to fifteen minutes of nonstop Thrall kills, the Exotic Order completes, and you’ll unlock the Yellow crystal.

Dark Matter Crystal: Orange
Orange crystal can be unlocked through Lawless Frontier Jobs on Mars. From what we have seen so far, it looks like you can get this crystal from the end chest of Grandmaster Lawless Frontier missions on Mars. One reported drop happened at the end of a Grandmaster clear after around six total runs, which strongly suggests this is a simple RNG reward from the final chest rather than a fixed quest step.
This is still not fully confirmed, so treat it as early information. We are gathering more data from players about which difficulties can drop Orange, and we will update this section once there is more concrete info to share.

Dark Matter Crystal: Magenta
Magenta crystal can be unlocked through Lawless Frontier Jobs on Venus. From what we have seen so far, it looks like you can get this crystal from the end chest of Lawless Frontier missions on Venus, most likely as a random drop rather than a set quest reward.
This is still not fully confirmed, and we are gathering more data from players, so this section will be updated once we have more concrete information.

Dark Matter Crystal: Indigo
Indigo crystal can be unlocked through Lawless Frontier Jobs on Europa. From what we have seen so far, it looks like you can get this crystal from the end chest of Lawless Frontier missions on Europa, again as a simple RNG reward in the loot pool instead of a fixed objective.
Again, this is also not fully confirmed yet, and we are collecting more player reports and will update this section as soon as there is clearer, confirmed data.

Dark Matter Crystal: Cyan
Cyan crystal can be unlocked through high-level contracts. Right now, that is all we know for sure, and the exact conditions or drop rates are still unclear. It looks like a random reward tied to these contracts, but this is not confirmed yet.
We will update this section once we have more detailed and reliable data from players.

Dark Matter Crystal: Taken
Taken is planned to drop from the Equilibrium dungeon. As of now, the exact method to earn it has not been fully mapped out. It could be a random drop from the final chest, a reward for completing a specific challenge, or tied to a set of dungeon triumphs.
We will update this section once the dungeon goes live on December 13th.

Eververse Praxic Blade Dark Matter Crystals
The last three Dark Matter Crystals are sold in Eververse for Silver.
Before you can purchase any of these sets, you must complete the Praxic Path Exotic quest. Once that is done and Praxic Blade is fully unlocked, Eververse will offer three armor sets that each include a Dark Matter Crystal for your sword. Buying the set unlocks the crystal account wide.
Dark Matter Crystal: White
White comes from the Jewel of Power Set in Eververse. This set costs 1,000 Silver, and you can only buy it if you have already finished the Praxic Path Exotic quest. Once you buy the Jewel of Power Set, it adds White crystal to your weapon.

Dark Matter Crystal: Purple
Purple is tied to the Reefblade Set in Eververse. Just like White, this set costs 1,000 Silver and also requires Praxic Path to be completed on your account before it becomes available. When you purchase the Reefblade Set, you get Purple crystal added to your Praxic Blade color options.

Dark Matter Crystal: Gradient
Gradient comes from the Praxic Embellishment Set in Eververse. Again, the price is 1,000 Silver, and you will need to have the Praxic Path questline wrapped up before you can buy it. Purchasing the Praxic Embellishment Set unlocks Gradient crystal which features green and blue colors.

That covers all 12 Praxic Blade Dark Matter Crystals in Destiny 2 Renegades, from the default Green you get with the weapon, through the quest and activity based drops, all the way to the three Eververse colors.
