Bungie confirms new Destiny games are part of its future plans, alongside new stories and the restoration of vaulted Destiny 2 content.
Bungie has confirmed that the future of Destiny extends beyond Destiny 2, with the studio explicitly saying it plans to build new stories and games in the franchise.
The confirmation came earlier today, in Bungie’s studio update, “The Next Chapter for Bungie,” written by Studio Head Poria Torkan and Head of Product Josh Deane.
The post followed Bungie’s earlier decision to make Monuments of Triumph the final planned content update for Destiny 2, a move that prompted a loud response from players. According to Bungie, that response “made a real impact” on how the studio views Destiny’s future.
Bungie has now made its position much clearer.
Bungie Confirms New Destiny Games Are Part of Its Future
In the new update, Bungie calls Destiny “foundational to Bungie’s future” and says the studio still has more stories to tell and new worlds to build.
The most important line comes later, when Bungie explains how its newly announced Destiny 2 restoration project connects to whatever comes next:
“This restoration is the first step to lay the foundation for how we reforge into new stories and games that you all deserve.”
That wording confirms Bungie’s plans for Destiny go beyond maintaining Destiny 2 or bringing old content back. The studio is talking about new Destiny games, plural, although Bungie has not named any of them or said what form they will take.
There is still no official confirmation of Destiny 3. Bungie did not announce platforms, release windows, development stages, or whether these future games will continue Destiny 2’s structure.
What Bungie did confirm is much broader than the future of one existing game.
Earlier in the same post, Torkan and Deane wrote, “we are not done with Destiny.” Bungie also said it wants to return the franchise to what it described as its original promise, pointing specifically to mystery, discovery, and Guardians tackling threats together.
The first part of that plan involves restoring vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids. Bungie says the returning content will be available to all Destiny 2 players, although rebuilding it for the current game will take time because older content needs updates to lighting, encounters, combatants, and other systems.
Bungie also says that restoration work is only the beginning. The studio plans to share more about its wider vision for Destiny “as soon as we can,” with additional information on the unvaulting effort coming over the next several months.
