A new Destiny 2 leak details Bungie’s alleged Classic and Modern split, including old campaigns, Portal content, six DLCs, and changing Fate Saga plans.

Bungie reportedly considered splitting Destiny 2 into separate Classic and Modern versions before its internal plans shifted again, according to a new infodump posted by longtime Destiny leaker Deakstiny. The alleged proposal would have preserved older content in one version while pushing newer Portal-focused content into another.

Deakstiny says the information came from the same source behind a previous leak that included Pantheon 2.0 and upcoming ability details. There is an important caveat here.

The source disappeared before publishing a promised Pastebin, so the new post is Deakstiny’s reconstruction of information they had already received. Deakstiny also says they were never told whether the Classic and Modern concepts were approved plans or merely ideas being discussed inside Bungie.

Destiny 2 Leak Details Bungie’s Alleged Classic and Modern Split

The proposed Destiny 2 Classic (in November 2025) would have contained the game’s existing content plus Renegades, then largely remained frozen in time. According to the leak, Bungie hoped to eventually restore old campaigns and seasonal activities so Classic could become a central archive for players catching up on Destiny’s story.

“Contains all of the content that we currently have and Renegades,” the leak reads. “Similar to Rise of Iron in that the game will be frozen in time, but the hope is that they eventually add the old campaigns/seasonal activities so that it becomes a sort of “one-stop-shop” for everyone to catch up on the story”

Purchases made there would carry into Modern, although weapons earned in Classic apparently would not. “Modern” was described very differently. The leak says Destiny 2 Modern would contain content from The Edge of Fate onward, with the Portal forming the backbone of the experience and raids and dungeons remaining as larger permanent activities.

Older weapons could have been left out initially, then reissued later so anything available in Modern could also be earned there.

The alleged plan went beyond separating old and new content. Deakstiny’s source said Bungie ideally wanted the Fate Saga to continue for roughly three more years and believed six DLCs would be needed to finish the story. The same information claimed Bungie was reluctant to publish a roadmap because “there are no concrete plans outside of the same yearly DLC cycle we got with Year of Prophecy.”

By December 2025, the direction had already changed. Deakstiny says Bungie was discussing a return to a more traditional seasonal model, including a possible season between Shattered Cycle and Shadow & Order. The post also claims Sparrow Racing League and tiered raid and dungeon gear were being discussed around the same period.

Later December information allegedly suggested Destiny 2 could go end-of-service after Shattered Cycle, with The Alchemist expansion, which was set to release in Winter 2026, effectively canceled. If the timeline is accurate, Bungie went from discussing a three-year Fate Saga to considering an earlier endpoint within a matter of months.

None of those internal concepts are confirmed Bungie plans, and Deakstiny explicitly describes parts of the dump as possible pitches or ideas rather than locked production decisions.

As for where things stand now, there’s been a lot of “hints” and “implications” from Destiny 2 creators that some sort of positive news is coming. For now, though, we’ll have to wait and see.
