One of the clear standouts is Praxic Blade, a kinetic exotic sword, which is basically a Destiny’s version of the iconic Lightsaber from Star Wars. In this guide, we will go through how to get the Praxic Blade lightsaber exotic sword in Destiny 2, walk through the full Fire and Ice exotic mission, and then cover its perks.

How to unlock the Praxic Blade exotic sword in Destiny 2

To unlock Praxic Blade in Destiny 2 Renegades, you need to complete the Fire and Ice exotic mission that is part of the main campaign.

As you play through Renegades, keep following the story until you reach a later step that sends you to the Praxic Temple, around step 33 out of 45. At this point, you load into the exotic mission called Fire and Ice. Early on, it feels like a normal campaign step where you push forward, clear enemies, and activate objects. Keep going until you reach a room with a darkness splinter. Interact with it, clear the wave of enemies, and listen to the story beat. From here, the game stops clearly pointing the way forward, which is where the exotic style section starts.

From there, your goal is simple on paper. Find the hidden way forward in the Praxic Temple room, work through a set of puzzle sections, and complete two encounters that use a special orb mechanic. At the end of the Fire and Ice mission, after the final boss, you are taken into a Praxic chamber where you can claim the Praxic Blade as your reward. There is no extra quest step after the mission. The sword drops straight from that first clear.

You can do this on normal or Legendary campaign difficulty. Legendary is there if you want a challenge, but if you only care about getting the sword once, the normal setting is more forgiving while you learn the mechanics.

Fire and Ice puzzle mechanics explained

You do not need a full room-by-room walkthrough to clear Fire and Ice, but there are a few puzzle tricks that can easily slow people down. Here are the important ones.

The hidden hole in the Praxic Temple room

After you activate the darkness shard and clear the enemies in the Praxic Temple room, the game gives you no clear waypoint. The path is not on the ground level. Instead, look at the large structure in the middle of the room. Jump up onto it and search for an opening in the floor. There is a hidden hole that you need to drop through to reach the exotic section.

Knockback walls and fake disappearing floor loop

Soon after you drop down, you arrive at a huge outer wall with a staircase in front of it. The wall has panels that slam outward with force when you come close. Move slowly, crouch, and hug the wall. At the end of this area, there are very thin ledges that look unsafe but actually hold your weight. Use them to get to higher ground and into a side passage.

Inside, you see symbols on the floor and tiles that vanish under your feet. Stepping on those symbols sends you into a loop of vanishing floors and shifting walls that eventually dumps you back where you started. This is not the real path. Instead, before you step on the first symbol, look for a narrow hallway off to the right side. That small route, not the symbol platform, is what you want.

Vanishing platforms and thin ledges

Later on, you move into sections where platforms disappear a second or two after you step on them, and where some doorways only show that they are blocked when you get very close. Here, the main tips are:

  • Keep your camera low enough that you can see the next platform as you jump
  • Do not commit to any doorway until you are sure it is fully open and not fading out

After you make it through, you usually find a route that takes you above the same area you were just in. Look for glowing doorways and solid-looking ledges rather than chasing more symbols on the floor. Once you pass through the final glowing door and climb a bit more, you reach the portal that leads into the Fire and Ice combat arenas.

Fire and Ice orb mechanic explained

Both main encounters in Fire and Ice share one core mechanic built around orbs and floating Taken Blights in the air.

When you first load into the large arena, look up. You will see four big Blights floating over the room, usually two light ones and two dark ones. On the floor, a special yellow bar Cabal and Taken enemies spawn. Killing these enemies drops orbs you can pick up and throw.

Your goal is to throw the orbs at the blights that match their color and make each circle grow. A light orb goes into a light blight, a dark orb into a dark blight. Each time an orb hits the right target, that circle gets bigger. You need to grow all four circles together. It is not enough to fill just one and ignore the rest. When every circle is fully grown, the mechanic ends, and you can finish the wave.

The important part is how you control which kind of orb drops. When you kill a yellow bar enemy, you gain a short buff on your screen that shows what type of energy you have taken from them. While that buff is active, your next kill decides the orb color:

  • If you kill the same kind of enemy as your buff, you get a light orb
  • If you kill the opposite kind of enemy, you get a dark orb

So, for example, if you killed a Taken yellow bar and gained a Taken-themed buff, killing another Taken gives you a light orb, and killing a Cabal gives you a dark orb. By changing the order in which you kill these enemies, you can farm the color you currently need.

In the final boss room, the idea is the same, but there is one extra layer. There is a small darkness shard up high that acts as a switch. Triggering it spawns the next yellow bar wave, and the game alternates between Taken and Cabal waves. By choosing when to hit that switch and by watching your buff, you can decide what color orb you get at each step and feed the Blight you still need to fill.

Once you complete the orb phase in the first arena, you go through a portal to the boss. After you deal enough damage, the boss becomes immune, and you repeat the orb mechanic with the switch, then finish him off. As soon as he dies and the room clears, you are sent into the Praxic chamber, where you can claim the Praxic Blade.

Note

On Legendary campaign difficulty this room can be brutal. If you only care about getting the sword once, do your first clear on the normal difficulty so you can focus on learning the mechanic rather than surviving constant one shots.

Praxic Blade exotic perks

Praxic Blade is built to feel like a lightsaber, but it still plays by Destiny’s rules with ammo, combos, and exotic traits. It has five unique perks: Ranged Weapon, Cormorrant Reversal, Cormorrant Combo, Balanced Tang, and Balanced Grip.

  • Exotic Perk: Ranged Weapon
    • Throw your Praxic Blade, which will seek out multiple targets. Attacking recalls the Blade while it is in flight. Hold to perform a more powerful throw, sending the Blade on a straight path in the direction of your aim. Releasing the button recalls the Blade.
  • Cormorant Reversal
    • While guarding, this Sword converts incoming projectiles into bolts that reflect to where you’re aiming.
  • Cormorrant Combo: After three rapid light melee attacks, quickly press the right mouse button to execute a heavy melee combo.
  • Balanced Tang: A balanced tang for flexing between attack and deflection.
  • Balanced Grip: Channel a paracausel grip, balanced between defense and attack.
