The Return of the King?

Back in year 2, Bungie released some of the best exotics in Destiny 2 that are still being used inside PvP and endgame PvE activities. Some of these exotic weapons include Arbalest, Anarchy, and Izanagi’s Burden.

Speaking of the Anarchy grenade launcher, for quite some time, it was considered the best DPS weapon in Destiny 2, until Bungie pulled the plug and nerfed the magazine size and hot-swapping, but that might be changing soon.

Yesterday, Bungie released a new Wednesday blog post talking about some of the new weapons buffs and nerfs that players can expect going into the Lightfall expansion later this month. Most of these weapon tunings have been very well-received by the community, especially the heavy grenade launcher buffs which could mean the return of pre-nerf Anarchy meta in Destiny 2.

According to the new blog post, heavy grenade launchers will get a 20% damage increase against Champions, minibosses, bosses, and vehicles, and a 40% damage increase against minor red-bar enemies. That’s not all, Bungie has also slightly improved projectile collision and increased blast radius by 1m. (not applied to Parasite)

  • Increased damage vs. Champions, minibosses, bosses, and vehicles by 20%, minors by 40%.
  • Improved projectile collision, making it slightly easier to land hits.
  • Increased blast radius by 1m.

Grenade Launcher Meta Returning in Destiny 2 Lightfall?

Does this mean we’re going to have an Anarchy and general heavy grenade launcher meta in Lightfall? Possibly, though not quite exactly like what it was before it received a 30% damage nerf against bosses. Let’s calculate with a base damage value (let’s assume) of 100 per tick:

  • 30% nerf: 70
  • 10% buff: 77
  • 20% buff: 92.4

So, pair it with some sniper rifles like Succession or shotguns and we might have some decent DPS options in the endgame. Obviously, it’s too early to say anything with certainty.

In other news, four new universal emblem codes have been found in the Lightfall Collector’s Edition. Someone received their CE early yesterday and the community cracked the puzzle with the new emblem codes that players can redeem on Bungie’s website.

Destiny 2 Lightfall launches February 28, 2023, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
