According to the latest information from Bungie, the storage requirements for The Final Shape expansion vary significantly across different platforms. Here is a detailed breakdown of the storage needs:
- PlayStation 5: The download size is 143.81 GB, and the storage space requirement is 143.81 GB.
- PlayStation 4: The download size is 110.70 GB, and the storage space requirement is also 129.31 GB.
- Xbox One: The download size and required space for installation both stand at 139.52 GB.
- Xbox Series X|S: Both the download size and installation space needed are 165.82 GB.
- Steam: The download size is 155.50 GB, and the storage space requirement is also 299.70 GB, accounting for the current version of Destiny 2 (up to 144.20 GB).
- Epic Games Store: The download size is 144.61 GB, and the storage space requirement is 279.66 GB.
- Microsoft Store: The download size is 156.22 GB, and the storage space requirement is also 156.22 GB.
The most significant storage requirement comes for players on Steam. On Steam, the current version of Destiny 2 can take up to 144.20 GB. Adding the pre-load for Update 8.0.0.1, which can be up to 155.50 GB, the total required space reaches an immense 299.70 GB.
This large size is due to how Steam handles pre-loads, requiring additional space temporarily. After the installation, the total size of the game will decrease significantly as the old version is removed, freeing up a substantial amount of space.

- PlayStation: The update will be available on June 3, 2024, after 10 AM PT. However, Bungie says, “In an effort to decrease server load, some PlayStation users may be able to pre-download Update 8.0.0.1 starting on June 1, 2024, after 10 AM PT.”
- Xbox: The update will be available on June 3, 2024, after 10 AM PT.
- Steam: The update will be available on June 3, 2024, after 10 AM PT.
