Rumors about a Destiny mobile game continue as an insider claims that Bungie and NetEase are still developing a project titled “Destiny Rising”.
It looks like the Destiny universe might be expanding beyond consoles and PCs. According to a new rumor, a mobile game titled “Destiny Rising” is still in development, despite Bungie’s recent layoffs and project cancellations.
This claim comes from an insider, Kurakasis, who has a track record of sharing insider information for upcoming video game releases. In a post on X (Twitter), Kurakasis claimed that despite the recent project cancellations and layoffs at Bungie, the Destiny mobile game project is still very much alive and is titled, “Destiny Rising”.
“Destiny Rising is the title of an unannounced Destiny mobile game being developed by NetEase and Bungie,” Kurakasis said in a post on X. “It has not been canceled. I can assure you that it is still in development.”
The Game Post has reached out to Bungie and NetEase for a comment.
Destiny Mobile Game Not Canceled?
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a Destiny mobile game from Bungie and NetEase. For those not keeping up with the recent developments at Bungie, here’s a quick recap.
Back in 2022, The Game Post reported that Bungie had teamed up with Chinese gaming giant NetEase to create a first-person shooter set in the Destiny universe for mobile platforms, which was later – corroborated by Bloomberg and Forbes.
Fast forward to mid-2024, Bungie announced its second round of layoffs, affecting over 200 employees, and sparked concerns over the future of several projects.
Around the same time, reports from different sources circulated that an unannounced Destiny project codenamed “Payback” had been canceled, along with several other projects. There were also rumors that the Destiny mobile game might have been canceled even earlier.
While there hasn’t been any official word from Bungie or NetEase about “Destiny Rising,” the insider’s claim suggests that, despite the company’s internal shake-ups, this mobile project is still on track.
Of course, as with all rumors, it’s essential to take this news with a grain of salt until we hear something official.
