Destiny Rising, a new mobile game in the Destiny universe, is real, with NetEase leading development. Insider Jeff Grubb confirms an announcement may be imminent.

Yesterday, prominent insider and leaker Kurakasis revealed that Bungie, the studio famous for the Destiny franchise, has been working on a new mobile game titled “Destiny Rising” in partnership with the Chinese tech giant NetEase, originally reported by The Game Post in 2022.

Despite recent layoffs at Bungie, the project is very much alive and set in the Destiny universe. This rumor ignited a wave of speculation among fans, with many wondering just how involved Bungie would be in the project.

With no mainline Destiny titles in development after Destiny 2 and the studio scaling back resources with smaller content updates, many are questioning how much of Bungie’s creative influence will actually shape this new mobile game.

Adding credibility to these rumors, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb recently weighed in, confirming that Destiny Rising is indeed real and shedding light on what players can expect. In his latest comments, Grubb confirmed the existence of Destiny Rising with NetEase heavily involved in the project.

“This [Destiny Rising] is real,” Grubb stated in a post on Threads. “Not a lot of people from Bungie [are] working on it. It could get announced soon.” When asked about the genre and gameplay, Grubb revealed that it could be very different from Destiny 2 – with Hero characters instead of creating your custom player character.

“It’s going to be Destiny on mobile, but with a lot of changes,” Grubb replied. “Hero characters instead of building your own character, for example.”

The Game Post reached out to Bungie and NetEase for a comment.

As with any rumor, it’s important to take this news with a grain of salt until we receive an official confirmation from Bungie or NetEase.

The involvement of NetEase in such a substantial role could indicate that Destiny Rising will be a departure from what fans are used to, potentially offering new gameplay systems or a different narrative approach to fit the mobile format.
