A new domain and social media accounts for the Destiny Rising mobile game suggest an official reveal is on the horizon.
Earlier this month, rumors about a Destiny mobile game, titled “Destiny Rising,” resurfaced when insider reports claimed the project was still in development at NetEase, despite Bungie’s recent project cancellations amid the second round of layoffs.
Originally reported by The Game Post in 2022, sources familiar with the project’s development have now revealed that Destiny Rising is internally codenamed “Viper”. According to recent reports, the game is set to feature hero characters instead of the customizable Guardians found in Destiny 2.
Additionally, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb shed light on the situation, suggesting that the game’s announcement may be closer than we think. And, with a new domain and social media account registrations, all signs seem to point to the announcement happening soon.
Destiny Rising Domain and Social Media Profiles Appear
On August 21, 2024, a new web domain playdestinyrising.com, was registered. Domain registration details show it was registered by MarkMonitor Inc., the same broker used for other NetEase projects like Naraka: Bladepoint and LifeAfter, including the company’s official web domain “neteasegame.net”.
Upon further investigation, The Game Post noticed that new social media accounts tied to Destiny Rising have also popped up across all major platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. These accounts use the handle “PlayDestinyRising,” consistent with the domain name.
Interestingly, on X (Twitter), the handle appears as “_DestinyRising” due to the platform’s username character limit. While the profiles remain private, their blacked-out profile pictures and banners suggest they are placeholders for a future announcement.
Details have also revealed that these social media accounts were created on August 22, 2024, one day after the domain was registered. The domain registration, the consistency across social platforms, and insider reports all point to a potential reveal on the horizon.
Whether this announcement will debut as a trailer during the rumored PlayStation State of Play later this month or as a completely separate gameplay reveal remains to be seen, but all signs suggest that fans won’t have to wait much longer.
