A recent Marvel Rivals leak suggests loot boxes may be on the way, featuring new currencies, rarity tiers, and exclusive cosmetics.
Marvel Rivals, the latest free-to-play 6v6 combat game from NetEase and Marvel Games, has had a strong launch this month. Its polished visuals, engaging gameplay, and tie-ins to beloved Marvel lore have drawn in a substantial player base. The game has quickly climbed the Steam charts, reaching nearly 500,000 concurrent player numbers on launch day.
The game has received high praise from fans, especially for its character designs. The monetization strategy in Marvel Rivals focuses on cosmetic-only purchases, with two main currencies. (Lattice and Units)
However, recent leaks suggest that Marvel Rivals may soon introduce a loot box or lottery system, which could bring a new layer to its monetization model. Dataminer and leaker RivalsLeaks shared new details on X (formerly Twitter), offering a glimpse into what might be next for the game.
Marvel Rivals Leak Suggests Loot Boxes Are Coming
According to RivalsLeaks, files discovered in the game hint at the introduction of loot boxes featuring two new currencies: Crystallization (the main currency) and Marscoin (a secondary “blue” currency). Players could potentially convert their existing in-game currencies—Lattice and Units—into these new ones to participate in the lottery system.
The leaked files also revealed rarity tiers for the items obtainable through loot boxes:
- Gray: Likely basic recolors of existing skins.
- Blue: Slightly higher-quality items.
- Purple, Yellow, Red: Increasing levels of rarity, with Red being the rarest.

These loot boxes could also include other cosmetics like emotes, sprays, and player cards, reminiscent of the reward system from the original Overwatch. Additionally, they may be tied to specific events or special occasions, operating as a time-limited feature.
Here’s what RivalsLeaks said in a post on X (Twitter): “It seems you’ll be able to convert Lattice and Units into Crystallization (main currency) and Marscoin (blue currency), which can then be used to pull for skins.”
“The rarity tiers appear to be: Gray, Blue, Purple, Yellow, and Red, with Red likely being the rarest and Gray likely to be a recolor of a skin. The lottery system seems to be time-limited, possibly tied to an event or special occasion. Also, looks like it has an additional rewards tag, so maybe an emote a player card, or a spray with a skin.”

While the exact cost of one loot box in Marvel Rivals remains unknown, it’s important to note that these details are based on datamined files and may not reflect the final implementation.
For now, Marvel Rivals relies on a fair monetization model with two main currencies and cosmetic bundles. The Luxury Battle Pass also offers premium rewards at a reasonable price, making the game accessible to all players.
