A new PlayStation job listing confirms Bungie’s MOBA project ‘Gummy Bears,’ now a PlayStation-owned franchise.

Bungie’s multiplayer project, Gummy Bears, has been making the rounds in reports since 2023 when The Game Post first revealed its existence. Since then, there’s been a major shift in its development. Following Bungie’s second round of layoffs last year, the company spun off an incubation project, forming a new team under Sony PlayStation to continue the work.

Thanks to a newly posted PlayStation job listing, we now have official confirmation for the codename Gummy Bears project title, and that is no longer just a Bungie project and is fully under PlayStation’s umbrella.

PlayStation is Hiring For New Live Service Game ‘Gummy Bears’

The new job listing, spotted by The Game Post on PlayStation’s official Greenhouse job page, is for a UX/UI Design Lead. While PlayStation has been vague about the game in the listing itself, the Gummy Bears name is clearly mentioned in its own section as part of the PlayStation Studios.

What’s interesting is that the listing highlights this project as a new PlayStation franchise, suggesting that Sony now fully owns it. This marks a shift from previous job postings, which referred to it as a new Bungie IP.

The job post mentions some requirements, including experience with live-service games, multiplayer design, and even knowledge of Unreal Engine, which lines up with our report that Gummy Bears is using Unreal Engine 5 to some capacity.

“As a UX/UI Design Lead, you will drive the UX of an Unannounced Project from prototype to production, from early technical planning and user flows, playtesting and tweaking the UI of the shipping game,” the listing reads. “Most importantly, you will work with a fun, dedicated, and passionate cross-discipline team devoted to turning a creative dream into a new franchise at PlayStation.

Before this, The Game Post reported that Gummy Bears is a MOBA-like game with some platform fighter mechanics, a mix of Super Smash Bros. and traditional MOBA gameplay, featuring a percentage-based damage system, three playable roles (Attack, Defense, and Support), and a bright, cartoony aesthetic.

The game has been in development for about three years, and after Bungie’s recent layoffs, around 40 developers reportedly moved to a new PlayStation studio to continue working on it. As for Bungie, the company is currently focused on its existing IPs – Destiny and Marathon.
